So the Mouth of the Klamath is a special place to me even though I haven't fished it for decades. I did visit about 6yrs ago but was late for the salmon bite. I did enjoy reminiscing about when my Pops would take us there as young teens. Back trolling the mouth in a aluminum boat catching salmon. Walking the beach for large red tail perch. Experienced an excellent grunion run one year. Landed a green sturgeon from the beach another year and also having a halibut pop off at the surf the same year. Could go on and on.  :smt007

Was to originally go up with my Dad this year. ( He's 72 ) but is unable to make it after all. So my plan is to make up with his spirit at my side.

Boss actually gave me an extra day off. So plan is to leave the Monterey bay wed night or early am Thursday morning and head back late sat night or early sunday morning. Excited about going but not the 8 hr drive alone. BORING. But the anticipation of returning to a place of great memories and beauty is fueling my tank !!!

If you are gonna be in the area pls let me know. Looking forward to it. Could also use some tips on fishing the area. Received a few pm's from some good guys already . Thanks , Alex.

Was up last week it was just starting to go off ! good luck and have, I love the lower Klamath. Locals dug the mouth straight when I was there so it should be wide open now.

got some PM's yesterday evening and I'm not real proficient with emails or pms I think I may have deleted them. I'm planning on leaving after work 3:30 or 4:30 and will be camping at kamper coral with my party of bank maggots near the fish cleaning station. no cell phone reception so I'll look at the board in Eureka. I'm in a grey Chevy Astro with a Hank Parker colored hobie outback. my name is Jon but you can call me jonesz. looking forward to hooking up with some of you yakers so I can mix it up a bit. safe travels for all driving the long trek

I'll be at Camper Corral.
I'll mostly be fishing above Blakes Riffle. You have to drive the river bar upstream as far as you can, park and launch. Then you paddle upstream some more.
Little Rays tackle shop will have everything you need.
I fish the spit as a last resort.
If you don't know where you're headed, any road could get you there.

Really wish I could join you. My father also brought me annually to stay a "Dad's Camp" which used to be on the south of the mouth. Great memories from those trips including my first salmon back when I was 8. My father's final wish was to have his ashes spread in the river, and that is where I laid him (under the 101 bridge) where the golden bears will watch over him.
Can't make it this year, but will be an annual trip once the move is over.
Good luck, and thanks for bringing back great memories

I've seen several actual bears there over the years.  Your dad picked a great spot :)

Good luck up there Alex!  Lower K can be fun when it's not uber-crowded.  If you launch above Blakes, push upstream through the first hole and up into the next run/riffle (Starwein).  Bounce roe tight against the north bank of the Starwein riffle.  And hang on  :smt004.

Also bring a light spinning rod for swinging spinners for halfpounders!  Copper-bladed Mepps spinners and gold-bladed Panther Martins can take you far on steelies in the riffles.
