I have posted before about northern snakeheads being caught back in Maryland. Thought I would share this from today. Joe Bruce is becoming a snakehead expert. MD DFG no longer requires that snakeheads are killed only recommend that they are harvested.

May not be to long before there are snakehead tournaments. Last week snakeheads were found in Susquehanna River which is at northern end of Chesapeake Bay. Many kayakers are now chasing them.

They are supposed to be really good eating fish too. I would not want an invasive to be introduced where they don't belong, but one way to control it is to harvest them and utilize it if possible. The same goes for the big head and silver carp taking over the mid-west... I say put commercial value to it and utilize it.

Agreed. I'm pretty sure that if I wanted to, I could obtain enough invasive carp there to make good money producing fish emulsion.

Wow, that could easily become a hot mess if they get below McClure.

+1 on the pics?

For sure!

I'm hoping that it's just a misidentification of a species.

Wonder if the snakehead experience mirrors the striper migration to the left coast?  Illicit plants, followed by begrudging acceptance...?

I think Adam Zimmern is annoying.  But if snakehead interests you, watch Bizarre Foods, DC episode where snakehead features prominently in the show.  Zimmern goes on an all night bow hunting trip from a pontoon boat on the Potomac, serves up the catch in a fish sammich

That thing is a beast!!!  Topwater fishing for them looks like a blast!  But man, I hope to never see one on the west coast either way...
