I hate kids playing this pos game.
An asswipe stole my little Emily's $50000 game money and she is crying......online is such a funny environment. Wish I know who it is to remove his testicles.[emoji37]

It really is pretty interesting how wrapped up kids (and some adults, even) get in this game. It literally becomes some kids entire life and the line between the game and their actual life gets frighteningly blurry. I actually had a student ask if he could turn in a project for school ... on MINECRAFT !  :smt011 I laughed a little when he said it thinking that he was making a joke, but he was dead serious.  :smt009

I limit their time strictly. Still no phones at 9, 11. What's with all the KIS with phones? Different times.

We dont play those games, or even have cable tv. Too much about life to learn that isnt being taught in schools, that are essential skills in life, that we have to take upon ourselves to teach our kids. Like, building something from concept, drawibg, to completion. Really neat to see it unfold, I would have enjoyed being a shop teacher of some sort!

A parent that understand that its not a teacher's job to both educate AND raise your child, too ? Very refreshing. Kudos, Rich !

Like with anything else, it's how you direct the interest.  My kids were super into it and I told them they could only continue if they took it to the next level.  In my older daughter's case it was to attend a week long (six hours a day) java programming class to learn how Minecraft was made.  She went, said it was challenging, but really enjoyed it.

When the kids started 7th grade they would say they had no money to use a pay phone. So they seemed to make their own decisions. I fixed that and got an 800 line. now with no pay phone. I think of cell phones as a leash. It all depends on the options you let them use. My son-in law would punish by taking the phone away. ( if I was in high school I wouldn't want one ) I told him it was a leash he didn't listen. So after the divorce I got the grandson a phone as soon as he used it to ditch school I took features away and he could still call home.  Got to a point where he could only call the people we allowed. So a phone can be a tool if you have a defiant kid.

Back when I was in college I played a MMORPG both as an addiction and for profit. At its worst I was running a 3rd party (outside of game) poker client where people could gamble with "game money" . I would take a rake of "game money" for each hand, then I would sell the "game money" back to people for real money.  Before I quit I was running my fake money poker service through WOW, EVE online, minecraft and a few other smaller games, and I had several employees that I could pay in play money. I made about as much then as I do now.

The lines are very blurry indeed.

There's game money in Minecraft? I thought it was all about building structures with different types of materials, rocks, stones, etc... My son loves that game.

Quinn loves it, I dont get it.  But we dont let him network hix X-Box, because XBL has tons of creeps and bullies on it.  I'd love to say he would rather play outside, but if he has a chance, inside and on the "box" is where he is at.

I was all over the place growing up in Florida and California, San Jose (before the boom) The creeks were clean and bunch of spots to run around in are now big buildings.

Hunted birds, fish, bike, lizzards snakes, etc.  Made cardboard treehouses too..lol  I rode my bike and stakeboard everywhere.

Now kids have no where to go in the bay.  Creeks are filled with oil, and sewage, and bums.  Not safe for kids due to sick baby nappers.

As soon as my son is old enough he will fish and is riding dirtbikes.  Hopefully he will become pro dirt or Motogp..  will will fulfill my dream. ... I meant his dream..

Minecraft never ends..   I was stuck on world of warcraft and counter strike for a bit when the internet started out.
