Again, new to this stuff and I was wondering if you guys all use those milk crates to hold your tackle boxes.
Also how do you guys organize your tackle boxes, like do you have one box for each type of lure?

Maybe some pictures would be helpful.

I use my milk crate just to hold my fish and rod holders, no tackle.

I quit using tackle boxes on the kayak too and I'm liking worm binders better

YEP!  This is how all of our tackle looks..

I just toss what I need in a Plano Ammo box. All zip bagged. They are there on the kayak just incase.  The items I use for the day goes in the hatch in a tray or a small box.

You dont need much for rockfish.   But I have enough items in the plano box for all types of fishing.

I have a box for just about everything, and then another box for backup!  :smt044  The trout box, the bass box, the rockfish box, the salmon box, etc.  More often than not I bring too much crap, and only ever use what I tied on in the morning  :smt005  Bring enough, but not too much is all the advice I can offer. :smt002

I started off hauling everything but the kitchen sink with me and found that, like others, I typically use what I rigged the night before.  Now I limit myself to what will fit in my tackle tray or 1 plano flat 3500/3600 style clear box/tray thingy.  Anything more than that is just silly  :smt005  I all seriousness, too much tackle can be ineffective.  Don;t judge this statement quite yet.  What happens when you have a large assortment of "goodies"?  You second guess the lure you are currently ""working" so you change it up.  Sometimes this happens before you get a good chance to effectively work that lure.  You repeat this and spend too much time re-rigging and second guessing your lure choice.  This leads to less time focusing on presentation of a smaller, select group of lures vs. wildly casting everything in the tackle box.  Even tourney bass guys with their dozens of rods tend to only work a select few rods throughout the day and this is given that, in the freshwater world of fishing, a single lake can offer a huge variety of structure that may require a different type of lure for that condition.  In the salt world, you really only need (for rockfish):  Bar Jig, Plastic (in 2-3 colors) w/ a few jig heads and maybe a couple bait hooks/shrimp fly type jigs.  Can almost carry that assortment in a life vest pocket.  Ok .. let everyone disprove me now.  :smt003

I only carry my plano ammo box because I have the rod holders mated on it also.

Realistically. A few torpedo sinkers,  few shad head, and flies, and swimbaits is all I use..

I always try to bring less each time.

plano ammo box holds the compass, GPS, reels during launch/landing, and whatever extra stuff (like salmon trolling divers, huge ling lures). a bungee under the lid holds a spool of leader line and a couple sabikis, just in case.
I keep all my go-to lures or bait stuff in flat plano tray boxes bungee'd in front of me. I try to only bring one tray, and fill it prior to each trip according to what I'll be doing. Mostly I keep it filed with lures, with a few hooks & torpedoes in there just in case a bait bite happens.

Thanks for all the ideas! I am deciding to just keep one plano box and put whatever I need in it for the day.
I like the idea of not taking too much and really spending more time working a particular lure/ technique.
One question, are the plano ammo boxes waterproof?

If it doesn't conveniently fit in a small tackle tray or a 12oz container it stays onshore.

water resistant, not water proof. it will take on water if you roll the boat

Yeah, resistant means it might float for a few seconds before it sinks out of sight  :smt044
