I'm sure a lot of you already know about NorCal kayak diver Danny Clark's wife Stephanie and her recent diagnosis of Leukemia.

http://www.gofundme.com/m24dl0

In addition to a HUGE raffle being held on 4/18 up at Caspar, on May 2nd we will be putting on a fundraising "Top2Bottom" event where kayak anglers and spearos can each target the same species and the winner gets a bad ass custom wooden plaque made by Piscean and all the $$ goes to Stephanie.  :smt007 :smt007

I have attached some example pics of Piscean's work for those not familiar with it, and a few pics from the first Top2Bottom event.  :smt003

Rod and reel vs. cold hard steel!

Hookers vs. Shafters!

 :smt003

As you probably know already, the annual MBK Annual Fishing Derby will be held in Monterey on May 2nd:

http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=63948.0

And, the Annual Monterey Bay Triton Open will also be going on in Monterey that same day!

http://www.montereybaytritons.com/#!triton-open/c5vq

So, we will have a bunch of guys spearing and a bunch of guys kayak fishing in Monterey on May 2nd!!

I reached out to both Bushy and the Tritons and they were stoked about participants in their comps also being able to be involved in the Top2Bottom fundraiser!

 :smt007 :smt008 :smt007

To participate in the the Top2Bottom (T2B2) Fundraiser you just need to make a $20 donation to Stephanie's website, and then bring your fish in to be measured at either the Triton weigh-in at Oak Newton Park, or to the MBK Fishing Derby weigh in at MBK/Del Monte Beach.

***Participation in T2B2 Fundraiser is TOTALLY seperate from participation in the Triton Open and the MBK Fishing Derby!! Both those comps have their own rules and format, and T2B2 is a seperate fundraiser that is just happening on the same day, and we are fortunate enough that the organizers of both comps are cool with the fundraiser happening on the same day and with fish being measured in for T2B2 at both weigh-ins***

Rules for T2B are very simple:

Make a $20 donation to Stephanie Clark via her website and put in remarks T2B.

http://www.gofundme.com/m24dl0

Shoot me a PM so I know you signed up. If for some reason you don't like donating online, just let me know and I will work with you to figure it out.  :smt001

You can fish or dive anywhere in Monterey County or Santa Cruz Counties. Do NOT have to check in beforehand. Honor system applies. If we find out you cheated and caught fish the day before or outside of Monterey/Santa Cruz you will be ridiculed and disqualified.

No powerboats, no SCUBA, no jet skis, no fishing from shore. Kayaks with or without sails allowed. Divers can dive off a kayak or swim out from shore. Can change fishing locations/launches as many times as you want. All DFW rules followed 100%.

Points per inch as follows:

Rockfish: 8
Cabezon: 8
Lingcod: 5
Halibut: 5

No other species count. No greenling or perch or calico bass or sheephead or opaleye or monkeyface or flounder or salmon etc.

All fish that will be entered in the tourney must be brought in for measuring. No CPR entries allowed.

Fish lengths will be rounded down to nearest 1/4 inch. For example a Ling that is between 30.25 and 30.5 inches long will count as a 30.25 inch ling.

Your biggest entry of each species will count towards your total points.

Angler/Diver with most points wins bragging rights of being the T2B2 champion and a bad ass custom hand carved wooden Piscean Plaque.

Check in is from 1-3PM at beach in front of Monterey Bay Kayaks, or from 1-3PM at Oak Newton Park.

Anyone not at either check in station by 3:00PM will not be allowed to enter their fish for T2B.

REMEMBER: Participants in the MBK Derby and/or the Triton Open MUST follow the rules of those comps.

Any questions just let me know, and THANK YOU once again to Bushy and to the Monterey Bay Tritons for being so cool and accomodating of this fundraiser!!!

If you plan on fishing I encourage you to also sign up for the MBK Derby, and if you plan on diving to sign up for the Triton Open event!!!

 :smt006

Sincerely,

Jim

ps..the first Top2Bottom tourney raised over $1,200 for blood cancer research. Spearos took 1st and 2nd and an angler took third!

So, I was thinking about this...and I basically have to catch a limit of halibut to win T2B.
Because I plan to target butts with multiple rods. Which means I will have to release any incidentally-caught rockcablings. Or catch a halibut first then switch to 1 rod and target rockcablings.
Challenge accepted.

LOL!!

Limit of halibut wouldn't help you win....

Your biggest entry of each species will count towards your total points.

So for you, yeah target your butts with multiple rods, get a big one for the MBK derby win (again), then down to one rod to pick up rockcabling.

My plan is hit up my cracks for rockcabling on carmel side, then hightail it to pound sand on monterey side for butt for the win.

And blast a second and third Ling or second rocky/cab to also win the Triton open best of 6 fish species.
