Eric asked me to help coordionate and run the raffle at GS9 and I gladly accepted!!

I am super grateful to Eric and GS to the good times and community spirit, and $ raised for various causes, and feel very fortunate and honored that I have been able to attend for 5 years in a row!!

So here's some info on how the raffle will work:

I will bring a giant roll of tickets and will be selling tickets at the potluck (after the tourney and before the raffle and awards ceremony).

I'll be set up in a central location with some beverages and food so should be easy to find, and should have some helpers there with me as well.  :smt003

Eric will have some really cool prizes including a brand new Bending Branches paddle, B2Squid tackle, Redwood Coast Spreader bar tackle, Surf2Summit Seat and accessories, Kokatat gear and more!!  :smt007

Tickets will be $1 each. You buy a ticket, write your name on the half that goes in the raffle and put the other half in your pocket.

There will be buckets/jars next to each prize. Put your ticket(s) in the jar next to the prize you want.

We will pull the winning ticket from each bucket for each individual prize, call the winner and give them the prize.

 :smt004

At the very end we will announce how much total $ we raised.

Half the $ will go to Norcal HOW, and half to the PIF fund.

 :smt008

Thanks again to Eric for letting me help out with this, and if any of you have any questions please just let me know!!

 :smt006

Sincerely,

Jim

Thanks for taking the reins Jim!  :smt006

Excellent!  Thank you so much, Jim, for taking the reins on this.  I'm really excited to help generate money for PIF and HOW through the GS9 raffle.

Last year I think we came up with just over $1200 split between PIF and HOW, and while the silent auction format was fun and a success, I've had time to reflect on how to make the GS charity component better for everyone involved.  With the silent auction it became about who was willing, as individuals, to shell out a substantial amount for an item.  All bidders were highly appreciated, but that format didn't allow for people to just get involved on a $10, $20 or even $50 level for most items.  That was my mistake, and I'm really stoked that this year everyone can get in on it at an affordable cost, and everyone has opportunities to take home some great items - and ALL proceeds to benefit our two near and dear charities:  PIF and Nor Cal HOW.

I have the items that Jim mentioned above, and I'll be working on assembling more to bring.  Every year I have people contact me wanting to donate items for use as prizes/raffle/auction items, and I totally appreciate that people reach out.  However, I find myself getting pretty bogged down with stuff when I'm already toting around a truckload of schwag, shirts, hoodies, potluck supplies, scoreboards, trophies...etc.  I've learned in the past few years that I have to be strict about what I accept into the mix - I limit it to kayak fishing related items, and I put stipulations on how people can go about donating items.  If you'd like to get a new kayak fishing related item into this awesome charity raffle then by all means please PM me with your offer.  You can expect that my reply will spell out exactly what I require if your item is to be accepted into the raffle - it will be along these lines:  you bring the item with you to the Cove and keep it all the way until the raffle setup - I cannot receive, store and tote around your item because I'm already loaded down.  I appreciate the understanding of those who would attempt an ascent of my "Mountain of Defense" against getting loaded down with too much when I've already provided that burden for myself.   :smt003

This is going to be very awesome.   :smt001

Here's what GS is bringing so far.  Still waiting on a couple of Kokatat pieces, a couple Suunto mountable compasses, some NRS gear and hopefully a few other choice items.

If I get my kiln running in time, I will bring a piece/and or pieces to donate to the raffle. So have an extra ticket container ready! (it will hopefully be finished getting wired tomorrow, but I added the "if" just in case) :smt006
