after seeing someones FB post saying April 1st ??

I spent time on the dfw -central area webpage, and after only finding the same header note on their page, that Pat posted above in this thread, I called .
I was told in a week , or so, they will announce the changes--3 ling 5 blacks was mentioned and a 'possible' early open for 2015  with the same end  date of dec 31st 2015

"check the site again weekly" I was told yesterday ,as they are ready to announce changes for this year soon.

Thank you for being condescending, then agreeing with the info I posted.

Rumors are still April 1st. 3 ling and 5 blacks. I hope it holds true. They will probably tell us a week before.

I see how you got there if you thought that comment was directed at you.  It took me a while cuz I was confused but I see it now.

Back to the topic, I'm not sure how I feel about trading five blacks for one ling, since out of Trinidad blacks are by far the most common rockfish. Putting in the work for deeper rockfish trying to get a copper or vermillion is going to result in a lot of blacks getting released and not everyone uses a descender.

I'd feel better if descenders were required, whether the angler thinks it's necessary or not.

It's totally  BS that we get the shortest season with the smallest population and only 3 ports to launch a boat into the ocean in one of the biggest counties in CA.  When can we form our own state and make our own laws instead of the fools south of us making the decisions while killing the most fish and giving their selves longer seasons and fishing deeper.

As far as the 5 blacks, 95% of the black I have caught swim away no problem.  I hardly recall having to ever use a descenders on a black.  Catching coppers, verms or other rockfish isn't that hard.  If you fish a little deeper, different structure and use more squid it can be easy to locate other kinds of rockfish.  There are always big schools of blues to get too.

Do you even have any understanding of why you have the shortest season up there?  It is because you have the biggest impact on yelloweye.  In 2014, the Northern part of the state caught about 1/2 the allowable statewide bycatch mortality.

BTW, interesting stat ... in 2014, only 1.058mt of the allowable 3.4mt yelloweye mortality rate was reached.  I wonder if it is a "use it or lose it" situation.  Would be nice to see that roll over.
