goodbye to a long time friend...

she had a great run of almost 15 years, and fought cancer bravely for the last five, far exceeding the 6 moth prognosis
She saw us through many a hard time,  and even gave us the gift of a fine Christmas holiday where she played like she did when she was young.
Her life's work completed, she left us peacefully on Friday, and was laid to rest where she can keep an eye on us, as well as the deer in the forest.

Sorry for your loss, You are truly lucky to have shared the time with a great friend. Remember good friends dont come along everyday, be it man or dog.

My heart goes out to you, Sean.  What you've shared here is part of a beautiful tribute honoring your beloved pet - way to live it, Bro.  Cherish those memories and value the lessons.  All of our journeys will end, and we should hope to have those who loved us celebrate the lives we lived. 

thanks guys. I've had other dogs, but this one was a standout.  She came to us 3rd hand, after being boarded for 3 weeks and was very mistrustful of people initially (no wonder).
She was officially adopted by us after we took her to a Kayak Connection derby in 2002 and her behavior was exemplary (even if she did take a bit of a childs potato salad off his plate. To be fair, she thought he was giving it to her )
She was at my office each day, went XC skiing with us, and loved the beach. She fought Canine bladder cancer with no apparent ill effects, and  due her wonderful surgeon Dr Nacy we had her for exactly five years after her diagnosis during which we went skiing, took her on a 2 week trip through the Trinity forest, and had a lot of beach days. She was one strong little dog, and her life was pretty grand.

My condolences to you and your family.  It's never easy.
