Seems like tweakers are becoming rampant everywhere. That sucks especially since it happened in your own driveway. Here's a question for Hojo ... can tweakers be used for bait in CA ?

what a drag....sorry for your hassle

makes sense that they come back again too for another theft....

We had someone steal plates off a family members new jeep in Utah once and they left some stolen plates on the car to delay the person from noticing the theft...then 6 weeks later they came back and switched the older stolen set back, and stole the  the new legal set...

They hit a coworker of mine 5 times. At work first. Busted window and too registration from glove box. Next hit him at home several weeks apart and again at work. He finally had a plate welded to the cat to prevent access to the exhaust pipes.

They where using a rolling cutter like or an electronic version.

All high clearance Toyotas are at risk. If you have the cats welded then the thieves can damage the headers and the rest of the exhaust system the next time the cats are stolen. I have been told the best prevention is a good insurance policy or adding off-roading armor plates that have to be removed before accessing the cats. Many times the thieves will also pry the spare tire and cut/break the tire winch cable because many Toyota  spares are full size matching rims.

I drive a 1975 blazer, no platinum in my pipes. I am a plumber by trade and it is amazing what is stolen these days. even to recycle most metals, if you go over a certain amount, the recycle yards make you wait two weeks to cash the check.

Catalytic converters stolen in Benicia

By Times-Herald staff report

The Benicia Police Department is warning residents of catalytic converters being stolen from vehicles, according to a press release from police Friday.

Officers said that Toyota pickup trucks and SUVs, as well as Dodge pickups, are being targeted, due to how easily thieves can crawl beneath the car to steal the catalytic converters. The parts tend to be stolen either late at night or early in the morning, police said.

Catalytic converters are part of a car’s exhaust system and help lessen harmful emissions. The part is valuable because of the material it is made of platinum, palladium or rhodium. The metal can easily be sold to recycle centers and replacement of the exhaust system can cost anywhere from $1,000 to $5,000, police said.

Suggestions on how to safeguard your car include taking your car to a muffler shop, where they can weld metal rods to the exhaust system to make it difficult to remove the catalytic converter, or installing motion sensitive car alarms. Another theft deterrent is to have the vehicle license plate or driver’s license numbers etched onto the catalytic converters. Police are also urging residents to park cars inside their garage if possible.
