The day one jackpot was won by a 27lb halibut. Looked just like the one I caught two years ago. There were probably a dozen or so halibut caught....none by me. Most were caught deep, in 100ft or more.

So we really need to start the discussion as to what we want to do next year, so we can make sure to get a slot reserved.  I talked with Jason a bit, and while Cedros is appealing, the time of year (May/June) that they run kayak fishing trips is more often windy than not.  Unfortunately, the best time of year is in the fall when the Islander is all booked up on Shark Charters.  The moral of the story is if we want a 5-dayer, we'll just need to be flexible as the weather would dictate where we would/could go.

I just want another 3.5 day at SCI.

I don't think the people wanting the Mexico trip realize that trip is 3 days of boat travel for 2 days of fishing.

I say book the 3.5 day and if we don't fill it up here post it up on the BWE board.

That's what we should have done this year.

It's actually 3 days of boat travel for 3 days of fishing.  It's 1.5 days one way with 1/2 day being the first night (or last night).

Another option is to do a limited load trip, with a shot of making a day run off shore to run and gun on tuna if they are there, or go paddy hunting for yellows.  The Islander did this recently with a limited load kayak trip.  They went offshore looking for bluefin, because they were there and because the weather allowed them to.  Their plan was to find a school and see if they could hold them in the chum line while splashing the kayaks.  They found some spots, but they couldn't get them to go off the big boat, so never splashed the kayaks.

Or with our group, we could do a full load and draw straws for a rotation on who gets in the water first if an offshore bite develops.

Wrong. It's less than a day to get to Cedros.

Whatever. You're still paying for 2 whole days of travel. Point being is that it is a looong ass trip to potentially arrive to conditions that are too windy to kayak fish in.

Well, 1.5 days is what the skipper told us it takes the Islander to get there.  Different boats cruise at different speeds.
