God I hope the forecast holds and we get to hit the outside of the island on Saturday.  The forecast doesn't get any better than this.

Quote
Saturday  Variable winds 5 kt or less. Mostly cloudy. Mixed swell...WNW 1 ft and S 1 ft. Wind waves around 1 ft.

Good luck guys.  I'm really sad I'm not going to make this year.  I was all set and committed in the beginning, but then it seemingly fell through so I made other plans.  Now its kinda came back to life and cant make it. Oh well.  I went last year and it was hands down the coolest fishing trip I've ever been on; and the fishing wasn't even at its best. I really hope you get into the YT and WSB. Count me in on a 2016 Islander trip   :smt006   :smt001

I didn't take a single picture ...

But I did stick 4 rat yellowtail (3-5 pounds).  Caught 2 in 45' of water in the sand of Pyramid cove while I was targeting halibut.  One was caught on the dropper, so I flylined a 'dine and caught another before the school moved on.  A number of the rat yellows were caught, but nothing larger.  One 34# WSB was landed, and a bunch of halibut up to 30#.  Most of the halibut were caught deep (like 100' of water).  Lots of bonito and a few cudas annoying the hell out of flylined baits.  Dustin did call me in to a nice goat bite on the second morning when we were on the backside of the Island.

Tell Jarod I said

This was Jarod's last trip as a deckhand on the Islander.  He snagged himself a job as an electrician.  "Weener Neck" newbie from last year didn't make the cut.  Blond haired Matt (who could possibly be mistaken for an aMayesing bro) is on his second year, hustling as hard as ever.  Skiff driver Mike was back.  Geezer was there, as grumpy as ever.  And 2-3 new greenhorns.  Cappy Jason led the show once again.

Awesome! Did you get on the west side of the Island?

Day 1 morning, China Point, west side of Pyramid Cove.
Day 1 after lunch, East side of Pyramid Cove until we got blown out.
Day 1 evening, East side, bottom part of the island.
Day 2 morning, west side, seal cove working our way to the south, to where we put in last year.
Day 2 afternoon/evening.  Back to the East side, bottom part of island.

Apparently he carried the Weener Neck nickname for all of last season ...

It was a blast. All of the So-Cal dudes were cool and I landed my first SCI yellowtail. Even after three previous trips I learned a lot on this trip. The food was delicious and the fishing was so-so, but the little yellows were out and biting. The one I landed was a little 8lber, and I lost another one that felt much bigger when the hook just popped mid-blistering run.

Didn't take any pics, unfortunately.

I'll be going again next year.
