I think this was decided back in 1969.  The supreme court decided in Tinker v. Des Moines that you do not lose your 1st amendment rights when the school bell rings.

This should be a conversation about taste, and not rights.

You can't speak freely at an Obama speech because you will be escorted out.

You can't yell bomb at an airport without being arrested.

So not wearing certain clothes or colors at school because they have had problems and say you can't is okay because other restrictions were already allowed.

It's either no restrictions ever or its okay based on certain criteria.

Do you think it's okay to disrupt a veterans funeral because I don't.  Do you think it's okay to show your kids pornography or dead babies because I don't.

People need some common sense on when and how they express their views.  If they get bad reactions or assaulted then maybe that's what they wanted all along.  Everyone's breaking point is different but most are protective of their children and don't want others influencing them without you being able to explain what they are seeing or hearing.  That's why school curriculum is reviewed before teaching it to the kids.  Some crappy stuff has got through so we decided to home school. Not everyone can do that but they should be comfortable sending their kids to a school event without trying to influence them on anything while they are there.

Exactly.

But what criteria was used here?  The issue I have is that they chose to exercise these constraints over a specific issue, one that is obviously polarizing, drawing even more attention to it, and making it even more polarizing.

One shirt here or there probably would not have been noticed, but the whole team sort of stood out and that's what it was meant to do.

It's a little to late to pull back the restrictions that have already been made over the years like the examples I gave.  Not impossible but Damn near.  So some common sense is all I ask.  Because I wear patriotic shirts all the time and if someone wants to confront me for some reason they have the right just as much as I have the right to wear it.  As much as I love this country I am not going to drive around with an American flag screening USA on Cinco De Mayo just to piss people off.  Even though I have every right to do so.

Some of the kids were bullied into wearing them.  That's a pretty clear no no however you feel about the topic.

The host school recognized that the Mendocino kids were going to wear shirts that were potentially inflammatory. They asked them not to, and were told no.

A host is well within its rights to disinvited a guest if it has come to the host's attention that the guest intends to be disruptive and ungracious.

That's the lesson here, and it has nothing to do with the message.

The only time I ever got in trouble in elementary school...was for wearing a Homey the Clown shirt in 6th grade...It said "Homey don't play that!"   :smt044  The principal called my mom and asked her to bring me a different shirt.

Agreed.  I am going to go diving now.  See you all later unless a shark eats someone with the initials DG.  [emoji15]

Yeah that too.  I hate it when you make sense.

It would be far more interesting if it was a regular season game or especially a playoff game instead of an invitational tournament.  I think as the home team you'd have to allow it.

I got in trouble in high school for wearing a shirt that said "donde estan mis pantalones." Oh the heinous crimes of our youth :smt044
