Freedom of speech

I'm not really sure what the problem is. The message on the shirt isn't particularly inflammatory or polarizing to me. If you read the article they were disinvited because of fears they might wear the shirts. WTF does that mean? The laws governing freedom of speech at schools are only there to protect the learning environment from disruption. This is a sports tournament not a classroom.

Athletics is an extension of the classroom.

As long as the rule is equally applied, then I am OK with it and schools have a right to ban clothing. My kids went to Catholic school and they used measure their skirts.

Scott, Do you think the Ninth Circuit's ruling would stand up to the tests of the Supreme Court? I don't.

 Note the ruling wasn't about banning clothing, it was about a perceived risk of inciting violence, similar to yelling fire in a theatre which is also not protected speech. The slogan "I can't breathe" is not a rallying call for anti cop violence or anti cop at all. It's trying to draw awareness to disparities in the criminal justice system in the hope that people, including LE, would be willing to reflect on.
