Arrived at Anchor Bay early saturday morning and checked into our campsite.  They Are very small but all have picnic tables and fire pits.  Not exactly my kind of camping, but it was great fishing access.  We just had to cart our Kayaks 30 yards or so to the beach, then down the beach to the launch at the north end.  The people that run Anchor Bay were very friendly and all the people camping there that we talked to were very friendly as well.  They have very nice facitilities there with showers, flush toilets, and a nice fish cleaning station.

Our campsite.

The entrance to the beach only a few yards from our campsite.

My brother preparing for launch.

Headed out.

It was a beautiful day!  Sunny, and just a slight variable breeze.

We headed out about a mile straight out from the launch and found a nice reef that was LOADED with fish.  I have never seen anything like it.  It was about 100 feet deep and there were fish solid on my FF from the bottom all the way up to about 20 feet.  We started landing an assortment of rockfish, and my brother was the first to land a nice red.

I was fishing a 7" green swimbait on a 4oz leadhead.  It was my first time fishing a swimbait and I was getting very frustrated after hooking up with several good sized fish and then losing them a few seconds later.  Does one usually use a trailer hook when fishing a swimbait?  The tail got ripped off the bait pretty fast and it was all chewed up with teeth marks.  :smt013
I switched to the old trusty sardine megabait and strarted hooking them.

C&R copper.

One of the biggest chinas I have ever caught.  It was probably about 2lbs.  I had to keep this guy.  Barotrauma sucks!

I ended up releasing most of the rockfish that I caught but I kept 6 including 3 nice vermillions, a brown, a black, and a china.  Surprisingly we only caught two underlings beetween the two of us.
This is my stringer at the end of the day.

My brother's stringer.  He doesn't like to eat fish very much but he kept a couple to give to his friend who really wanted some.  He caught a lot of really nice rockfish that he released throughout the day.

This was the view a few steps from our campsite at the end of the day.

We had a great trip and I will definatley be back to Anchor Bay.  The quality of the fish out there is excellent.

I took a couple of videos.  The first one is my brother with his first vermillion.

This one is my brother fighting and landing a rockfish.

What a beautiful day and fish.  I've not heard of Anchor Bay before.  Cool.  Is it usually this sheltered or did you just hit the good day?

Anchor Bay faces south so from what I hear it is usually this protected.

Atta Boy Travis... glad you laid into them up there.   Looks like it was worth the trip.  You're making me want to head up there one more time before the season ends.  Looked like some pretty awesome weather too.

good pictures, good condition, and good report. The 4-hour driving keep me away from hitting that area of the coast. The camping trip is an excellent idea. Thx for sharing.

Okay I added a second video at the very end of the report.  The outcome is kinda funny.  One more note:  I saw what looked like a dolphin jumping out of the water.  I scrambled to get the camera, but I did not see it again.  It was not a shark and it was not a seal or sea lion.  There are not dolphins this far north are there?  Any thoughts on what it could have been?

Nice.

I like the way you already had the fryer out in the first pic.

As for the dolphin ... yes, they are this far north and that's probably what you saw.

I have seen dolphin a few times. And yes they scare the CR@P out of me until I identify them.
One time at Ocean Cove I had two come within 20 feet of me.
