I find that hard to believe considering NorCal kayak anglers is in the final round of a national survey. the only reason why I bother posting is NorCal kayak anglers was in the top 5. That means someone is voting.

Until you posted this thread, there has not been another post here regarding this year's popularity contest.  And in past years, any discussion about KACA has been slanted towards the negative.

I've said this before, this contest is a joke.  Year in and year out there have been nominations, and even "winners", that have done absolutely nothing for kayak fishing.  I've seen candidates engage in this popularity contest using whatever means necessary, including non kayak angler avenues.  So you won a contest in which you got 1000 of your non kayak fishing buddies to vote for you.  What meaning is there in all of that?

True for me to some extent - I didn't care about most of the categories like innovative product or blogger, but Pac Out, Trinidad, NCKA and Jason Self got my votes.

Even if a nominee gets the win through enlisting votes they will still be in a position to enjoy some amount of increased exposure, and hopefully that will assist with their agenda which may include great things for the sport or our region.

If NCKA is up there as a finalist without promotion here I think that speaks to the quality of the community we have.

I agree that the contest has its drawbacks, but wouldn't you enjoy it if NCKA was named top site, Allen?

Not really.  I've been pretty outspoken at times about the shortcomings of KACA, that there is no way I could enjoy it.

Let me ask a hypothetical question.  If we ran a contest here on NCKA for location of the year, do you think Trinidad would win top honors.  I guess that many people would not think it so.  So why is it still in the running over all the other great locations we have here in NorCal?

Eric, did you vote in the preliminaries?

Nope.

As for Trinidad or any of the other people, places or things on their ballot, I agree that it's a popularity contest - very unscientific.

My point has to do with what the results might lead to, as opposed to how candidates got on the list.

What might it lead to?  And why should the winners deserve to be led there?

Agreed. Participated in the past, researched nominees and read threads on other sites, etc. I will not repeat that mistake.

It's crap.

In the case of NCKA, it will lead to an increased awareness of your site, and that should lead to increased membership, participation from more like minded folks...etc. - if I'm not mistaken, that could help your prospects for attracting advertisers, sponsors...etc.

Why should the winners deserve to be led there?  Because the site and the community are worthy of notice and accolades.

So does your dislike of KACA have more to do with it coming from a competing magazine?  Will you denounce the win if NCKA achieves it?

Taking NCKA out of the picture for a moment.  If some no-name shit product wins the popularity contest, is it not misleading that they somehow gathered the votes, and undeservedly won?  Of course the assessment if they deserved it is entirely subjective and my opinion only.  Hypothetically speaking of course ...

My dislike has nothing to do that it comes from YakAngler.  I'd call those guys friends.  We've shared drinks, meals, war stories, and have discussed the KACA shortcomings at length.  They are very well informed of my thoughts on this.  Would I denounce it?  Well, let's look at this another way.  NCKA, NWKA, KFM, and even myself have been nominated at one time or another.  Some times I've been asked to accept the nomination.  I never have.  Technically speaking, I abstained, as I neither confirmed or denied the nomination.

I don't see a reason to be this Salty when you are in the top 5 in the finals. There are a lot of other people that would love to be in your place right now. But if you feel this strongly about it and you are speaking on behalf of NCKA, then you should definitely pull your forum off the site or accept it for what it is, and be stoked. People do these competitions for one reason, exposure. Exposure leads to spending money in areas, advertising dollars, notoriety, etc. This group can reap the benefits of all that or we can be Salty about it. You've done a fantastic job with this group Allen, I'm sure you are pretty proud of what you've accomplished, I'm proud of it to. We all have that common interest.
