I don't see a reason to be this Salty when you are in the top 5 in the finals. There are a lot of other people that would love to be in your place right now. But if you feel this strongly about it and you are speaking on behalf of NCKA, then you should definitely pull your forum off the site or accept it for what it is, and be stoked. People do these competitions for one reason, exposure. Exposure leads to spending money in areas, advertising dollars, notoriety, etc. This group can reap the benefits of all that or we can be Salty about it. You've done a fantastic job with this group Allen, I'm sure you are pretty proud of what you've accomplished, I'm proud of it to. We all have that common interest.

So what you're saying is that if we win, you'll advertise here on NCKA?  OK,  you're on.  Vote up fellas!!!

I'm glad you are now officially a believer of what "potential" this KACA popularity contest has. And, it doesn't cost you anything to vote! :) Come on NCKA lets win this thing!

That Kayak Anglers Awards is a joke.  Jason Self for AOY?  Are fucking kidding me? :smt005. I voted, but for the few legitimate anglers and other choices that were on there.  I did give Trinidad my vote, but it is borderline if it should be on there.

Just out of curiosity I checked out this year's nominee's for AOTY. I noticed Lessard is on there. If I was voting he would be a great choice. A proven great fisherman having a great year. I wish Kevin/Insearchoffish or Racinrob were up there. They also would be great choices having both won major local tournaments as well as doing great in our own AOTY this year.

Should someone be in the running for AOTY, even in this popularity poll, unless they've somehow distinguished themselves above & beyond other kayak fishermen for the year in which they were nominated for?

If you don't like the results, vote on it. Or, if you aren't into the whole thing, don't waste your valuable time complaining about it. Very one is entitled to their own opinion and everyone has the same opportunity to vote on it.

So let them express their opinions then, without telling them what to do.

Maybe we should discuss some background here.  First off, per forum rules, please state your affiliation in your signature.  You run Pacific Outfitter, no?  Also Jason Self is an employee of Pacific Outfitters.  And Trinidad is in your backyard.

BTW, I got nothing against Pacific Outfitters.  While I've never dealt with them directly, I understand them to be a great asset to the kayak fishing community up there in their region.

You are absolutely correct, I do run Pacific Outfitters, Jason Self does work for me and if you Google our store you will see that Trinidad is definitely in our backyard. I also have been promoting this competition on our Facebook page and encouraging them to vote. Just like Austin Canoe & Kayak, which has had the title of "retailer of the year" for that last three years. We are much smaller than them and don't do anywhere near the volume, but they are also great ambassadors for the sport and I respect their business because of that. But it's time to give them a little competition. I'm flattered that we are in the top 5 with them. I'm also flattered that Trinidad is in there too. We got a lot of good press this year for Trinidad in Kayak Angler Magazine, Kayak Fish Magazine, OcceanPaddler Magazine (3 times this year, 1 of them a cover shot), MyOutDoorBuddy, Sunset Magazine, 101things... So, I can only imagine people are curious and have heard great things about it. NorCal Kayak Anglers is also in the top 5. Pacific Outfitters has helped make that happen, because I feel you guys are GREAT ambassadors for the sport. I guess I didn't expect "blow back" over a good thing for a good group of people.

Vote for us or don't vote for us, it's your choice. But I think it's awesome to have a local angler, local shop, local fishing location and local forum in the top finals. Doesn't matter who it is, even if was some other shop or angler, it's still good PR for our area and good PR generally means good things.

Sorry Allen about the signature. I'll go into my account and get that filled out for ya.

Pacific Outfitters has a nice business employing lots of people in an area that sure needs jobs, they conduct a tournament I enjoy, and seem to want to win (KACA). I like seeing good things happen to nice people. I don't mind the nice cashier in Eureka having a good day based upon my voting for them in a popularity contest. That's a win. From "Best small town in America" to President of the United States I will take what I can get. I like to see California represented because we are of course the best in the world. I doubt Aaron is getting paid to win, he simply wants to present P.O.. well and that attitude is the basis of excellence. The failures of the competition doesn't necessarily mean the winner is unworthy .- A
