my .02...I have had two toyota tacoma trucks..the first one had 113,000..only got rid of it due to being T-boned by a drunk driver..totaled...have 109,000 on tacoma #2...have not had a problem yet...

Tacos are the Barbie dolls of the Asian world; jeeps are the ken dolls :smt044
I prefer Barbie over Ken anyday or night[emoji12]

Also I clean throttle plate every  other oil change. 200k and no problem.

Those nice old ladies' cars are hard to find. They are very savy too I must add.[emoji16]

Ok ...oh wait ..you win... feel better now..just sayn I have done the same thing on/off road in both vehicles ( hunting/fishing/camping..not a rock crawling enthusiast and the only mods I made were tires and a lift 2''-3'' )  ..I prefer  the toyota ..and putting your ken against my barbie ..that just sounds sooo wrong... :smt002

What? your tacoma against my jeep? I thought my jeep had no nuts. I'm only running 3" lifts on 31s with an auto-tranny and not even lock'd up.... this is a daily drivers...

I think my Ken has bigger nards than your barbie; but I forgot, she's just got p_$$y :smt002

The Tokyo Condo…

Awesome ride,  The Z71 series , 2001-2006, 2003 had the best upgrades from previous years.  The standard rack actually has a "luggage assist" roller on the far rear,  put some pipe insulation, and ya have an awesome kayak roller, get my AI up there all by myself …  Outback, piece of cake…

Just spent 27 out of last 31 days on the road, comfy as could be…

Over 200,000,  couple water pumps, fuel pump, just recently replaced transmission and transfer case…

buy another one in a New York second…

MPG…?  well,  City, just close your eyes and pump….   :smt010

but 17 to 18 HWY,,,  :smt004  pretty simuliar to a Toyato 4 runner, I have had 3 of those…  according Rockhopper 230,000, no problems?

My last was a 97,  every year averaged about $2k in maintenance ,  guess they got better after 2001…  but no way I would sacrifice power and room for a TOY after what I know now…

Love the Tokyo Condo    :smt007

There are few places in California where there are sandy beaches to drive along. I use 4WD to get out of  sand on the shoulders and it has allowed me to park where I could not with most 2WD cars.

For high MPG with 4WD the Honda CRV is the most reliable SUV you can find. It is in the top 2 or 3 spots for ALL vehicles over the past 10 years. It has more usable interior space than the Subaru's and close to the same MPG. Subaru's are also very reliable vehicles and get 28-30 MPG.

The Toyota pickups are very reliable but they are gas hogs compared to the Honda and the Subaru cars. Toyota has kept upping the horsepower and the towing capacity at the expense of fuel economy. I have owned 5 Toyota 4WD mini trucks with both solid front axles and the IFS and put in total over 750,000 hard miles, on and off the road, with them and only done scheduled maintenance. But my Chevy Tahoe SUV got the same or better MPG than any of the Toyota trucks.

The advantage of a truck with a camper shell/cap and a rack is that you can put whatever you want in the bed of the truck and have it safe and when you get home you can hose it all out.

I have a Toyota & had a similar thing happen last week.  It goes back in for the repair tomorrow.  Mine is a 2000 Toyota.  As soon as I came to a stop, the engine would idle but no throttle.  Turned it off - back on & revved fine.  Check Engine Lite came on.  Turned out to be a Throttle Control Sensor.  Toyota has 2 of them on the throttle body.  They work opposite of each other to average the throttle needed based on the accelerator petal position & tell the computer how much "gas" to give it.  They tend to go out at 150k.  I was 200 miles under that!  One was like $50 & the other was $500 ... mine was the more expensive one  :smt012  Might have something to do with that if you don't have an actual "throttle cable".  Computer will tell all.  Mine first happened a few weeks ago & didn't happen again till last week.

Still love my Toyota though!
I replaced the TPS in my 4runner for about 65$.  That and the battery are all that I have had to replace in the 75K that I've owned it (5+years).   :smt003  She is now at 210,000 miles and I hope that she can make it to 600K like Rob's truck  :smt004

Only thing I've EVER had to have done to it, other than regularly scheduled maintenance (every 5k miles), is replacing the U-joint a couple of thousand miles ago.

My old lady's has never had anything done to it other than regularly scheduled maintenance (every 5k miles).

And I drive 'em like race cars. Ask anybody that's ever followed me to the Sonoma Coast.  :smt003

There is (2) TPS units in my Toyota pickup.  One was ~$50 & the other was ~$500.  Never fails ... the one that failed on mine was the $$$ one.

But I feel older toys were better built. This applies to most things these days. I like manual HVAC control with knobs. My wife says I am getting old.
