If they offer a stick, I would consider outback or forester

I called a dealer . They say sticks are hardly allocated in CA for outback/forester but one can get one.
Outback sport is a bit small for me [emoji22]

A lot of Subarus sold by pre-order. I was waiting about 6 weeks for both outbacks

I like CVT - especially Subaru's. it's one of the best on the market right now. Outback or Forester - I think it's like apple and oranges - everyone has own taste.

I had not good experience with basic Outback, but Subaru NA Customer service stand for me without any power pushes from me. OB Premium is so sweet, that my wife took it from me as city commute car.

based on overall reviews I would go with Premium or higher trims.

I bought a Forester couple of months ago. Little more headroom then the outback. I'm liking it. It has a surprising amount of power for 2.5 four banger.
How do you like the cvt on Forester?
I had a nissan rental with cvt and thought it was extremely unpleasant to drive.
i drove a rental nissan versa with a cvt and that transmission is horrible. The cvt transmission in the subaru is way more different than that, you can actually feel the power and not even feel the shifting.

I have both an 06 sti and a 12 impreza sport limited and i don't regret getting the impreza, it goes everywhere i want to go and it's a damn beast for only having a 140~ hp engine. Maintenance is sooo easy with the oil filter on the top too. I'm really hoping they bring over a diesel version boxer engine over but i highly doubt it. The new direct injection boxer enginer + turbo in the wrx/forester are damn nice too.

Also go with the leather/limited, you won't regret it :P

Me myself, I like having a truck, but not a 4x4, for the life of the truck you may if your lucky get 5% 4x4 use out of it.  A 2x4 truck with no spin locker has the same effect on one axle as a stock 4x4 without a no spin locker.   My beat up old 95 toyota with a 4 cyl still gets 20 mpg with kayak on it the rack at highway speeds. I just don't race to get anywhere.

In my area, 95 toyo truck holds more value than gold.

Tacoma or 4Runner, they hold their value and run forever.
Fishing is cheaper than therapy!

Keping them full of fuel is a nightmare.  My Toyo can go to Camp Roberts and back on a tankful, my assigned Humvee is two tank fuls and then some.
