Remember recently when Prop 37 (GMO labeling) failed in California? General Mills was one of the biggest donors to the opposition. They dumped millions upon millions of dollars into a campaign to keep consumers in the dark about what they're eating.

I used to really like Annie's as a brand. They were a local company that offered tasty, organic, non-GMO food. They also had a mission statement that jived with my personal values (support small family farms, not mass-scale monoculture).

They state that their mission "is to cultivate a healthier and happier world by spreading goodness through nourishing foods, honest words and conduct that is considerate and forever kind to the planet."

Now they are owned by a company that spends billions to keep us in the dark, and uses environmentally irresponsible farming practices.

The reason I am asking you to boycott their products is to send them a message that we do not approve...

I love Annie's!  Is it naieve to assume that business as usual will go on at Annies, but now the costs, expenses, profits are shouldered by GM?  Can they not run their farm, make their products, package and sell them without anyone knowing that GM owns them?  Is the assumption here that Annie's Mac and cheese will now come of the same conveyer belt as Krafts does?  Just a thought.....and WHO does make the cutest snack?  Is it Annie's cheddar bunnies or the teddy Graham!!!!???!  So many questions....... :smt005  :smt006

AlexB, I applaud your decision to boycott a company that you no longer agree with.  We all should vote with our feet and wallets.

Montana,  potassium nitrate is far from the most common form of N fertilizer.  NH3 is the most common.  Then urea.

Ammonium nitrate is readily available in the liquid form of AN20.   We buy it by the truckload.  AN32,  good luck.  You're right on that one.

The only thing that is really "organic", "GMO free", "locally sourced", "free range" or "sustainable" are things that you grow, raise or kill yourself. Most of what you buy under those descriptions are products which are overpriced, made by the same companies making everything else and really no healthier or environmentally friendly.

I'm glad I am not the only one who thinks this way.  GMO has been practiced by humans for thousands of years, just at a slower pace.  Wheat started out as a weed with a few kernels and 14,000 years later it feeds the world.  Genetic modification through selective breeding, pretty similar to what is done now for most crops (most).  "natural fertilizer" includes human poop in many places, and natural insecticide is often the same exact thing as the synthetic, just not made in the same quantities through oil and gas refining/refracting.

dont get me wrong, I often buy organic and prefer to grow as much of my produce as possible, but keeping the masses fed if more important to me than getting pissed at one company for changing senior management and profit center.  BTW, Mr. Awesome Henry eats organic mac-n-cheese 4 or 5 times a week.

I appreciate your passion, but I will withhold judgement of Annies until they stop selling organic mac n cheese at which point I will buy something else.

I think the reason to not buy Annie's is they built a business on being healthy and organic then sold out to an unscrupulous conglomerate. I shop at Costco  because they provide excellent wages and benefits to their employees. If they sold out to Walmart tomorrow I would never shop there again even if the transition was unnoticeable.

The problem with GMO isn't that it been modified it why it's been modified. One if the main reasons crops are modified is so they can be sprayed with roundup. There's no doubt in my mind roundup is horrible for us, wildlife and the environment.

I don't know how many of you know we Import a lot of grain now. It isn't like it was before Carter put our grain embargo on. To keep our grain and technology away from the Soviet Union, in retaliation for the invasion of Afghanistan. Prices never regained what they once were. Now John Deere has given China much business and technology to produce more of their own grain. So I ask how do you know the grain used in those goods are not Imported. Quaker Oats use just enough American Grain to reap some governmental benefits. Much of their grain is Imported. I'm sure GM has done the same thing.

Google LD50 glyphosate.

Google LD50 sodium chloride

Google LD50

Google sodium chloride.

Make the statement you made a second time.

Science matters.  We measure things.  We analyze risk and measure toxicity.

Glyphosate has not been proven to be unsafe to people or the environment.  (By anything I consider reputable)The FDA and local governments like Ca pull registration on unsafe products.

Diazinon and chlorpyrophos have been essentially banned from Monterey county.  Why?  The Central Coast Regional Water Board has rightly blamed them for toxicity issues in local waterways.  If you use them,  they make your life hell.

Never bought anything from Annie's.
Wish I was their kid.

+1 on rockfish and gb2

Feeding the world in 50years is a very big deal.   Don't get me started on the worlds phosphate supply only lasting 100 more years.
