It's time to put some more work into getting rid of the gut so I'm looking for a used Road Bike.

I did see that Jarod is selling the LOOK 555, but that's priced a bit higher than what I'm hoping to spend....although it is a very nice ride.

I need a something in the 52 to 54cm range but I'm looking for decent quality at a decent price.

If you have one sitting in your garage just gathering dust you should consider giving it a second life.

When I buy one make sure you're careful when passing the fat kid struggling to make it up the hills on your way to the SM coast, it'll probably be me.   :smt003

You might check REI if you can't find a used one. They're having a Labor Day sale.

How is the quality of one of their Novara bikes compared to a specialized, trek, or one of the other more well known bikes?

If you get to the Fresno area, stop by Ruber Soul Bicycles and tell them Robert sent you. My son works there and I'm sure you will get a great at an awesome price. You also might be able to talk D.P.Shim out of the GC he won at the PIF ;0)

Now that Pacifico brought it up about cycling, maybe if we get enough people we can get some bad ass ncka jerseys made and form some group rides  how many other cyclists are there on this site?

I've got a 54 carbon frame/ fork that you can have if you want. It's got h2 mad one geometry.
You get an apex group set for 500 and I'll build it up for ya for free.

I'd be down for a big ling ncka kit!

My wife has a Novara hybrid flat bar bike. It's held up well over the years, good quality. Plus you have the REI return policy. Return it if you don't like it. I've purchased and returned a couple hybrid bikes at REI until I found one I really liked.

I ride a Specialized Secture road bike. Reasonably priced and great quality. I've done many 50 + mile rides with no problems.

Buying a comfortable bike is like buying shoes. Try before you buy! Then take it in to a good bike shop for a custom fitting with your bike shoes on. Your comfort is worth the extra cost. If you don't get it right, you probably won't use it.

Have fun,
Al

Not as good IMHO, GF has a Navaro MTB, the componets are good, but the frame must have been built of recycled T-55 Soviet Tanks, heavy as hell. Compared to my Cannondale which is an XL frame I swear it weighs half as much.

I got my road bike at Performance Bike, and they always have a decent sale going on. Look for last years models on their website, have it delivered to the store (no charge), and they can set it up for you.  I am not a diehard rider, but you can get a size 52 as low as $599 a little nicer for 699 and a decently equipped Fuji for $800.

Jason,

Count me in. Just finished the Marin Metric Century last Aug 2nd.
I'm sure there's a few more on this site and some has retired from doing centuries but still rides.

So, let me know which one of you wants that frameset.

its a no-name (deng fu) FM-029 frame 3K glossy with no paint, with and integrated seat post- cut to fit someone 5'7" to 5'9 (29-31" inseam). 1" 1/2-1 1/8 Head tube, with headset, The BB shell has been faced so its perfect. I'll give you an uncut fork to go with, and may even have a spare derailleur hangar or two.

I've also got a Red 10 speed rear derailleur (up to 28t) good shape- $75
VCRC Ceramic Bottom bracket- great shape - 40
FSA GXP (english) Crankset 172.5 w/ new FSA 50/34 rings - 75

I may have some other random parts if you are trying to build a bike.

I've also got a couple of other crashed out parts if someone wants to repair/take their chances with them:

1) another of those frames above but with internal cabling, and simply beautiful lay up carbon, that has been crashed. Its got a hole in the left side of the downtube about the size of a quarter, and plenty of scratches on the clear coat.

2) an FSA Wing Pro compact carbon bar-- 42 I-I (44 O-O). Its got a chip missing from the left end cap, and a soft spot there as well from bouncing off the pavement. You could probably repair this bar, or just cut off 1/2" of the bar ends.
