Thanks for the offer, I really appreciate it.  I'll let Slack Thai take it if he wants it. I'm more of an instant gratification type of guy.

Thanks though.

Squidder nailed my thoughts exactly re novara, rei. Performancebike has a bunch of offers right now between 900 and 1500, all w lifetime warranty and first tuneup free.  There's no comparison bt performance and rei on product selection and service.

Ideally tho I'd support a mom n pop indy bike store, and I got the hookup for you on lights locks helmets, etc.

Not a bad bike listed above. Mixture of components. 105 shifters are good. You might inquire about the new hydraulic road bike brake systems. Might be too pricey but it is the braking future because of how effective they are. My two cents.

Now that Pacifico brought it up about cycling, maybe if we get enough people we can get some bad ass ncka jerseys made and form some group rides  how many other cyclists are there on this site?

Jason,

Count me in. Just finished the Marin Metric Century last Aug 2nd.
I'm sure there's a few more on this site and some has retired from doing centuries but still rides.

I'm in! Seems like there are at least a few of us on the peninsula. You guys wouldn't mind a young'n on a fixed gear, would you? I could be persuaded to get out the geared bike if you feel like doing anything over 40 miles.....

Oh, and on topic, I think you'd be fine with any modern aluminum framed bike with shimano 105 or better. My geared bike is a 2006 Raleigh Grand Prix. No special engineering or anything, and I've put thousands of miles on it. I did have to build a new set of wheels for it because I taco'd the front, and kept busting spokes on the rear. :)

I have a Miyata 710 on consignment at play it again sports in San Jose, Blossom hill rd. its a 54cm. and its in immaculate condition. So far its still there. Its a 1984 model chromemoly frame, forks with Suntour componets. I hated to get rid of it but I cant ride that type of bike anymore got a kink in my back. ( I'm getting to old ). Goggle it, its one that is light steel blue with a gold heat tube. The bike in the picture is not my bike just a idea of the color. Mine is in better condition then this one also.

Another place to look for bikes is BikesDirect. Very large selections of road, mtb, cross in carbon, aluminum, titanium. They use the name Motobecane for their in house offerings and give the best deals with that name. Several years ago I purchased a Ti frame hardtail mtb with XTR components for 2 K. The purchase went smoothly, shipping was free, and no tax. Best bike I have ever owned. They have many road bikes in the $800.00 to $1,000.00 range with all 105 group sets or Ultegra.

If you spend any time on the road I would look for a steel frame just to dampen the vibration more.  Aluminum will feel more stiff.  Also try different handlebar types such as upright swept back bars for comfort.  Wider tires, more cush make bay area backroads a little more smoother too.  Most folks are riding racing bikes that are uncomfortable, they're never in the drops, wondering why their back hurts, and could do the same stuff on a nice wide tired upright steel country rambler.  I'm a big fan of Rivendell and Surly bikes, old school technology that just works.  Soma makes nice bikes too.

That being said, I have a 1989 55 cm Bridgestone RB-1 frame/fork that I'd part with for cash/or even trades.

Fixe= No

We just got a company kit done, so I fired off an email to those guys,

They were great bikes but could you ever go back to shifters on the tube?

Wow I'm impressed this is awesome we have a lot of roadies here!! I'm done for some group rides. Superd that awesome you conquered the century. If everyone wants I'll set up group rides once a month. Mileage  and elevation gain is up to you guys. Sundays are best for mel. Let me know and I'll get it rolling. A couple of us just rode around Tahoe yesterday. Awesome 72 miler. I'm no TJ Vangarteren by any means, just a good way to stay fit.

Did my first 100 during strawberry fields century this past may. I usually have to squeeze in fast shorter rides <40 mi locally to accommodate my training and works scheds. But it'd be fun to do a social ride this fall during the "shoulder season". Something other than San Jose bike party. Also no critical masshole either.

Angel u shop this weekend?
