If you guys don't like how AOTY/DOTY went down this year you shouldn't have entered.
Haha you took the words right outta my mouth!

Anybody who finishes in the Top 3 for AOTY or DOTY gets mad props. That is a wonderful accomplishment. And they should be recognized appropriately (with a prize or a plaque or whatever). But if your main objective is to win a kayak...then AOTY is the least efficient way to do so!!! Just go win one of the many tournies and you'll get a kayak...there are a lot of kayaks being awarded for 1st place in a lot of tournies this year!
Not to mention...the DOTY guys probably work even harder than the AOTY guys...and they have never awarded a kayak as a prize...if you wanna talk about "what's fair."

With 741 tickets in the hopper, someone with 21 tix has a 2.8% chance of winning...11 tix = 1.5% chance...and 6 tix = .8% chance of winning.

The raffle concept seems to have increased participation. There are 89 participants this year.
IMO there should be a OK or JK for 1st Place DOTY, a Hobie for 1st Place AOTY, and another kayak raffled off...  Maybe something to consider for 2015?

Thanks Dustin and PK...

Yes, one of the main motivating factors behind the yak raffle idea was to increase participation...not just to raise $ for PIF, but to put some fun back into AOTY...there seemed to be some negative energy associated with AOTY in some recent years and we were trying to give newer/less hardcore anglers (who realistically would not be able to finish in top three) motivation to STILL push themselves to target new/different species, in new areas, and outside of their comfort zone, and have some friendly competition while doing so...

Top three in both AOTY and DOTY get killer Piscean plaques, huge bragging rights and there will be at LEAST prizes for the top three...

If you look at the list of sponsors we have been able to get for both AOTY and DOTY (on the event pages) you will see that there will most likely be prizes for a LOT more than top three....last year for DOTY we had at least one item for each top ten finisher...

Big fish award plaques will still be awarded to the person who gets the biggest in each category.

Personally...I like the format as it is and think it provides prizes and motivation to anglers/divers who push themsleves...and encourages everyone to try and target more species to get more chances to win a kayak....you can only buy ONE raffle ticket for the kayak, the rest have to be earned by fishing or diving.

Anyway, I just posted the list of who has how many tickets because I finally had enough down time to put it all into Excel...wasn't trying to start anything or stir anything up.

My main goal for working on AOTY/DOTY over the past couple of years has been to make it FUN for those folks actually playing...and most of the anglers/divers I have talked to have seemed to be stoked on how things are going....and the fact that polepole has let all $$ from AOTY/DOTY go to PIF (after prize plaques have been bought) is totally awesome in my opinion and a huge justification to try something different to increase participation...

But yeah...like any event/comp/tourney...there are rules that are laid out before hand...and if someone disagrees with them and doesn't like them that is totally fine and they don't have to sign up and participate...

 :smt006

Sincerely,

Jim

I don't see my name on the list.  No different than not receiving my Kokotat life jacket or plaques for biggest pacific halibut 2012 or 2013.  Also my points and average are messed up since I have 2 fish with the same point values.

I was not in charge of plaques or prizes for AOTY in 2012 or 2013 but if you send me a PM I will do my best to figure out where your prizes/plaques are, and I guarantee you that if you win something this year I will make sure I get it to you.

Here's an honest question:

How many prior AOTY winners still pedal, or even own the kayaks they won?

I use mine.  I kicked in the $200 difference between the Revo and Adventure to get the Adventure rather than the Revo, then picked-up an AI conversion kit.

Me make 3!

& last time I talked to Adam/ATD he was thoroughly enjoying his as well.
I did the same as John & upgraded to the Adventure. What an awesome kayak it is......
Can't wait until Monday to see what the specs are gonna be on the 2015 Hobies.

Rob, remember when I told you need to keep emailing Lisa from Kokatat. It took me a while emailing back & forth but she came thru & I received my stuff. Believe me she is good for that pfd you just need to fire off an email to her. As for your plaques I volunteer to pick them up for you from now on. I'm already looking forward to the AOTY ceremony for 2014. We had a great time earlier this year to celebrate ATD's victory & I'm proud to say that I've been to every AOTY ceremony since HT won. I'm bummed I missed the ones for ChuckE, Sean White, & Mooch but those were before I found out about AOTY. jim
