NICE!!!!!  Congratulations to Matt... that's quite an accomplishment.  Thanks for the video Jim... good thing you were positioned right next to Matt or that fish might just have made you take a swim.

It was definatly one of the more sketchy moments. I reloaded the video again at a different setting and this versions seems a bit clearer.

What happened to catch and release? I had to click it off when the thing was sqirming at the boat with a glove on his nose. Too cruel for me!

The fish was relesed in good shape.

I don't want to take away from such a wonderful catch, but I feel I must comment on this statement.

A fish that large is not capable of supporting its internal organs when brought out of the water like that.  They will literally crush themselves.  And a 2+ hour fight certainly is not good either, the longer the fight, the more lactic acid buildup, the higher the chances of a fatality occuring.  I understand the desire to get a good glory shot and I myself have been guilty of pulling a marlin or 2 out of the water ... before hearing that it was really, really bad for them.

Hopefully in the future, such endeavors might consider using the support boat to get the marlin on the wire as soon as possible (less than 30 minutes for a stiped marlin) and to position it in the water with the kayak angler in the background to get the glory shot.  And use the support boat to drag the marlin in the water until it revives better.  A marlin should kick strong upon release and not slowly drift away like that one appeared to.

Again, i don't mean to be negative on this catch, as it's a great accomplishment in anyone's book.  Please don't take it that way.  Rather I hope to educate.  Before I became a kayak angler, I was heavy into blue water fishing for marlin and sailfish.  I've developed quite a passion for taking care of that resource too.

Awesome, Truly Spectacular :fishing1 :beer3  Would love to take that on someday

Really looks dangerous on the landing side...So much power, hate to see one of us get a permanet piecing :smt065

I hear ya PolePole, I think one disavantage we have on these yaks is the ability to catch and release.

Trophys are usually caught alone with hard photo ops, and just being on a yak does not lend itself to many options.

Thanks for putting an option out there, and JIm...Your a pioneer :smt038 :kick

By no means am I critizing you. Your living the Dream, and bring others to it, :thumright:

Not sure there are very many options on taking these on a yak, except for maybe more help from a support boat,

Anyway, What do I know..Nice Catch............Danglin....aka.. :fish2 "Bluegill Hunter"
