I'd like to go up there Saturday too and gets some fishing in.

Where's the best place to camp for a night?  Can you reserve a spot?
Any info  appreciated.

I believe that Sean will be at Albion on the weekend of the 7th for the Headwaters Adventure function where there will be clinics.  Check out their website.

Sean and I will be teaching a Stroked Class, Intro to paddling in the Rocks, and Advanced Rock Gardening Safety and Rescue that weekend. We will also have Stealth Demos available if anyone is interested in trying them. Sucks that fishing is closed, but we will have a blast paddling the coast.

Thanks for the fishing season reminder!  I'd have been the only one fishing.

I did a little recon ride out to Timber Cove today.  I talked to Brenda a while, then Raydon showed up and we chatted briefly.

She said the camping area filled up Friday night, but that is unusual.  Camping is first come first served, $35.00 on top of the cliff, $45.00 down on the beach.

The area to camp is very small up top and on the beach.  Looks like you can park and leave your vehicle down on the beach all night if you camp down there.  Only a port-o-potty on the beach, there are showers up top.

I'm now thinking of going Friday night after work, won't get there until about 9pm but if its the only way to get a camping spot then maybe that's what I gotta do.

Ocean cove, stillwater cove & reef Campground are all very close by. Ocean cove has showers & probably has the biggest camping area.

I have been looking and wanting to go to one of these events for some time, but something always keeps me from attending.

I am going to make plans on being there and believe a few hour drive is worth it to learn safety.  Its hard for me to plan things to far out because I have chronic pain which will debilitate without notice.  I do get pain relief while in the water so will just plan on getting wet and or going for a dive while there.

I invited someone to go with me but wanted to tell him more on what's planned.   Will there be someone speaking on techniques only or actually people getting in the water and showing/ teaching corrective techniques.

Also I don't know much about that area so if anyone familiar can tell me if diving is good there or close by that would be great.  And how is parking and how far to launch area.

I'd love to go but being new to the area what are my expectations and what gear do I bring with me. I'm a warm water guy from the east coast so this is all new to me. Also can you post a map or give directions from Vacaville?

I'll be bringing the pro angler, is it even possible to hit the rough stuff in that? Regardless, I look forward to meeting ya'll

Timber Cove is north of Ft. Ross and south of Salt Point State Park, limited beach parking is available(about 8 spots) at TC, more parking along highway 1. Hand launch fee is $8. 30yds ramp down to cove is moderately steep, I doubt you would want to wheel the PA down by hand but drop it off or get there early and grab a parking spot. I would say that TC would be as possible to launch as anywhere into the salt, but as with anything it is dependent on conditions and your abilities. Sounds like there will be lots of folks for company. The decision to launch IMO must be yours, it is one of the responsibilities of the sport. Please search "dress for immersion" you will get loads of info. 3mil fj wetsuit is a absolute minimum, some will say that isn't enough. I hope my tone is friendly, I mean for it to be.  be seeing you,Amos

It sounds like there will be more than eight people. What is the normal routine! Drive down close to unload and then find the nearest spot on the highway?

Yes that is acceptable Ken. Turnaround at the bottom of the hill isn't great though. Those with kayak carts and the physical ability sometimes prefer the walk to the hassle of the turnaround.
*edit- the launch owner will get after persons who tie up the launch, please do make an effort to keep things moving  :smt008
