Elite 4 HDI

How can they get away with listing frequency ranges on the box, and fail to mention that transducer is not included!?!? WTF

Just extracting money from my money-hole. Thought I was going to be all rigged for Albion. I guess not.

Anybody know which transducer I'm expected to go and buy for this fancy DSI FF? Anyone in the 510/707/925 keep these things in stock?

Where did you purchase this unit?
Many of the big box stores offer these units and fail to mention the minor detail. The units without xducers are a great way to appear to be offering the same product at a reduced price, but not always apple's to apple's.
Buyer beware, when it seems to good .........

Where did you order it from?  That is the model# on the box?  It should start with a 000-11xxx-001.  Some locations order it w/o a transducer (000-11287-001)  to make the price "look better".  That model is sold 3-ways:

000-11287-001 w/o transducer List $249
000-11216-001 /w 83/200/455/800 transducer List $299
000-11218-001 /w 50/200/455/800 transducer  List $399

The XDucer for this unit used in fresh (shallow salt) is part #000-10976-001 and should retail for $119.95

If I remember correctly, the Lowrance bar code sticker on the box, that shows the (1 of 3) Lowrance P/N's for the unit will state which transducer is included or not included.  The unit is capable of running the freq. listed, just all dependent on the transducer purchased with (or separate of) the unit.  The online retailer/store that sells them is "responsible" to corfrectly promote the item based on the model they order and sell.  I have seen a few online that are "creative" in the way they word things so the buyer can't easily tell.  ALWAYS check based on the mfg. P/N what you are getting.

Haha I was also a sucker and bought the 4 HDI from Wally world before the Islander trip and found out that it does not do what the box cover and "HDI" feature show. I used it on the trip and promptly returned it for a full refund and going to buy the $199 unit that has the dual beam "HDI" sonar that I wanted. Kinda funny how they package things or really why even sell that model ? Well thats my venting and glad you put the word out.

I'm looking to use it for salt water, thinking that the scupper mount is the way to go. Does through-hull affect the DSI?

At least it didn't come with a crummy transducer. If anyone has suggestions, let me know.

Tony,

PM me the W.M. store you went to & any info about who you worked with, what you asked them for, etc...  I call on most of the W.M. stores in the Bay Area so this will make for a great training opportunity for me to work with the store employees to prevent this from happening again.  Personally, I don't like the "option" of buying the 4 or 5" units w/o a transducer but that isn't my call to make.

As for the unit & transducer.  I have the HDI on my Hobie & use a 83/200/455/800 in a waterbath shoot thru the hull application with minimal degredation of signal.  For deeper saltwater applications, I would suggest the 50/200/455/800 HDI transducer option.

   Thanks!

Bill

Thank you so much for your response. I contacted WM and they are being just about as cool as possible about it. She offered me a full refund, or to order a model with the transducer, or to order a transducer and give me a discount. It was a surprise that they would sell a FF without a transducer, but simply looking at the side of the box would have given me that info! No one to blame but myself there. I'm going to order the 83/200/455/800. Thanks again for the advice.

Tony,

Glad to hear they are getting you taken care of.  You aren't the first & won't be the last to have the "suprise" look on your face with no transducer in the box.  I don;t see a great value in selling it w/o a ducer.  I can understand it w/o in the 7" or the HDS series since they can be networked to share a transducer but the 4" & 5" Elite series models ... no need to sell it w/o a transducer IMHO.

If anything comes up with them that poses a problem, be sure to drop me a line.  Crap happens but it's how well one handles it that makes all the difference in a return customer vs a customer return.  I don't work for W.M. nor Lowrance but as a Pro-Staff guy, I cover the Bay Area W.M. (and Bass Pro soon) stores as part of my territory.  I'm usually in the stores a few days a month.

Regards,

Bill

This is why I do research online before buying an expensive electronic item.

Glad everything worked out well Tony, you're going to really like that unit. WM is a great retailer for sure.

Thanks Bill.
