not my thread-but the response..."you guys breaking rods"---with the un asked for advice -cracks me up...
I've fished my whole life and the rod folded under less than normal loads...but thanks for knowing it was my fault.....some days this place is ripe

Hey Craig,

That still doesn't mean that it isn't your fault.  I'm of of the opinion that if a rod breaks on me after using it a few times, then it is probably my fault.  Breaking under less than normal loads?  That could mean that I bumped the rod and weakened it somewhere along the line.

Now ... how did you get Pentax to replace your camera after YOU fed it to your dog?   :smt002

I also sent a brand new Pentax WG#-3 that my beagle ate to try and get at my perch pictures-smelled em inside I guess
Took a LONG time and many phone calls---brand new Pentax WG-4 in the color of my choice --kawi green  :smt044

Your dog ate your camera and you asked for a warranty replacement??  Whats up with that???

Camera didn't pass the crushproof test. Seems like a valid reason to replace it under warranty.

Wow...i've bought the trevala mainly because of the warranty. I've only ever used it a few times discriminately, but have bought over 5 rods from them at 120+ a pop, in addition to referring my buddies.

I was in the market to purchase another one, but with the news, it maybe time to look into other brands. I'm sure there are ways of addressing the abuse in warranty issues, but diminishing the "quality" of your brand, isn't one of them. I'm sure when the fall out comes, they will be running as fast as netflix to fix their customer relations issue. Bad move all together.

I own a WG3 it doesn't have a chance if a dog bites the display screen.  Its not bite proof.

Shimano Trevala's are fairly bomb proof and there are few competitors that can compare to their jigging rods imho.  They take a beating and keep on fishing!  Now they have the same warranty as practically every other rod manufacturer  out there.  They are still priced lower than Gloomis, Lamiglass, St. Crox, etc.  You have to step down to Ugly Stik or Cabelas Brands to find a cost savings.

you assume again...ass-u-me  :smt005 :smt005

I called -if you must know   :smt001 -to ask if or where , I  could buy the parts to fix the cracked back cover veiw screen-as the camera still worked even with teeth dents and a crack on the veiwer but might not be water proof(the reason I got it) or could I send it in for a new back screen and pay them etc---they asked me why it broke and got the beagle bites my camera  story---THEY said "not big deal-it's new-send it to us and we'll fix it free"......long time went by...they could not get parts for the WG-3 as it was being replaced by a new model and after 3 months or so sent they gave me a  brand new WG-4....and yes I accepted it....low  down sleaze that I am  :smt002

I have many things that break and I understand my fault and toss it away....new items failing in short order or fishing gear that needs service will get a follow up call-when a company hooks me up I'm good with that...if not...I dont buy that again due to it's premature failure imho...seems like I'm not sticking it to the man

liking my ugly sticks more and more and they make a noodle rod and med rod and stiff rod and all can take a saltwater soaking for a season -- kayak hard  day---stuffing in the vehicle ----bang up life and just keep going and going...55-80 bucks...if they cost 200 they would still be deal for salt imo

The Trevala is ~$120 and under normal use I would expect will last a lifetime - a deal in my book.  Real failures due to bad manufacturing will show up within 1 year of use.

Would I prefer the lifetime warranty?  H#ll yes, but no business will survive giving merchandise away for free.

I've hadn't had too many higher end shimano rods break on me.for some reason the crucial rods have broken.as far as the trevala rods go I hadn't had to much experience with the regular but the s models I've hadn't had any problems with
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

I bought
two, x-11 (sp_) steelhead rods -med
one ,surfking spin rod-med/ h
one, really cool high end spinning rod med/h for ocean work---my first ever lamiglas and the reason I now own 5
two, classic glass 8' 2" baitcasters in med

so if I send a 2 month old rod back snapped in half....and they decide to send me one back--- the odds that I will remain a lamiglas consumer and word of mouth rep stay high...then it is a win win right????

Don't get me wrong, if they offer a warrantee and I don't know the exact cause of breakage, I'll be the first to send it back and let them decide.  I am not qualified to determine if I am at fault!!!   :smt002
