I liked my pro angler but my outback is way more fun and can be loaded in the truck bed with ease.

Wifey got the original outback and today I sold my PA, so does anyone know what's new for hobie this year?  I like last years upgrade for flush mounted lowrance

The ICAST fishing expo starts Tuesday and this event is where hobie has released its new products in the past. I'm interested to see whats new this year but with last years overhaul I'm not expecting much.

Hobie announced a PA 17 to be available in October and will be a "tandem" fishing boat. At a certain point I have to wonder why people would not buy a skiff with oars and a trolling motor and a trailer. The PA 17 is likely to have a dry hull weight of 170 lbs. and with gear and tackle be at 250 lbs. and take two people to keep it moving through the water. It will be interesting to see if Hobie continues to put the standard fins on this boat.

Seems crazy to not have the turbo fins come standard on the Hobie boats designed for anglers. I replaced the standard fins and the standard rudder and the ones I removed from the two Revo's are sitting in a box in the garage. A bit of a waste multiplied by thousands of Hobie customers.

I agree.a 16'boat would be alot easier and faster to get around then a 17'pa.
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

imo, Hobie needs to re-think their hull designs and put out something in the 14'6"x 29" range with a little rocker, hard chines and a flat fore-deck for stacking crab pots and dive gear.

The Outdoor Retailer show is right around the corner. This is the big show for all the kayak manufactures. I'm sure theirs going to be lots of cool new stuff coming out, and finished products of new kayaks that are being talked about. Any new kayaks usually won't show up in shops till October or later.

Wonder then why Hobie does for a PA12 but not a Revo 13 or Outback which are equally oriented toward anglers.

The more time I spend in my Revo 13 with the turbo fins the more I know that for me it was the right decision to go with this boat instead of the Outback. What fun to really crank on it.

Video clip of the Hobie PA 17 tandem at www.hobiefishing.com

I have to wonder how many guys are going to accidentally hook their buddy while casting on this boat.

You got that right jack. Bigger is not always better.

I talked with one of my buddies who runs Mariner Sails down here and Texans seem to love the PA. but none of them have ever dumped a boat that big in the ocean blue yet and had to turn it over either.  The PA line is great for the bigger lakes but give me a more versatile smaller frame to haul crab pots as well as stand up in.
