I highly doubt that Dave refered to his business of selling kayaks as "sales a sideline and an interference".  I would believe a statement such as "rentals are my primary business income".  I would fail to believe that anybody in business for themselves would EVER refer to ANY portion of their business as an "interference".

I have purchased a total of 3 kayaks thru Kayak Connection during my lifecycle of kayaking and always found them to be helpful from demo to purchase to warranty support after the purchase.  Dave & his shop is a wonderful supported of NCKA & PIF made evident this weekend by a great donation to the PIF program.  K.C. supports those who support his business.

They are a much more professional outfit than Kayak Connection which is in the rental business according to its owner and considers sales a sideline and an interference.

It's time to cut the crap and move on.  You had a bad experience - fine but to continually belabor it is petty.  Rise above.

Yeah this is getting ridiculous, Elkhornsun. By repeatedly complaining about KC, you are alienating yourself from the community... And it somewhat invalidates any info that you have provided in the past, or may provide in the future.

I bought a couple Revo 13's a month ago from CCK as they made it easy to demo them as well as the Outbacks and with the turbo fins. I bought the anchor trolly and sail kit and sailing rudder and turbo fins for the two boats as well and they did the installation at no charge. They are a much more professional outfit than Kayak Connection which is in the rental business according to its owner and considers sales a sideline and an interference.

Let me tell you a true story, Elkhornsun.  I have never posted this here till now.  When I bought my AI at CCK it was not a smooth experience.  I took off early on workday at 2pm to pick it up.  When the CCK staff was putting the AI gear together we all discovered the hull was brand new but the sail was being used as a demo.  No way was I paying for a sail thats heavily used and it was the wrong color.  The owner did not know this and apologized.  So I didn't buy that day.  I lost 5 hours of my time and drove 80 miles round trip for nothing.

In the next few days I had email exchanges with the owner and we worked things out.  He gave an me extra discount, not much.
On my next trip there everything was in order and I made my purchase.  I NEVER bashed CCK.  My point is its not a perfect world and you need to stop your negative attitude.

I like buying local but the price from Austin Kayak might be cheaper, even with the shipping cost if they don't charge tax.  Not sure?

Austin Kayak charges $159 shipping for the Outback and Revo boats and $219 for the two Pro Angler boats. About the same as the California sales tax so to me it makes more sense to go to a local shop and have the boat ready to go. With any freight damage discovered after the truck has left would be difficult to work through with Austin Kayak. They are an excellent company and I bought a Trident kayak from them but for the Hobie boats we wanted to get them from a local shop.

CCK gives 10% discount on any other items purchased with a boat and we bought 2 Revo 13's there last week (after getting stiffed by David at Kayak Connection) and we go 10% off the second Revo as well as the two sail kits, turbo fins, and sail rudders.

When I bought my Hobie, it was cheaper to pay shipping thru Austin Kayak rather than CA sales tax and, believe it or not, it was also (much) faster delivery, since nobody had it in stock locally. I ended up having a major warranty issue, and it was actually very easy to work with Austin Kayak. So, IMHO, warranty concerns shouldn't be a deciding factor.

I bought an Ocean Kayak from Austin Kayak and it arrived in one piece. But I did not want to take the risk of a damaged hull (which happens) either from the factory mold or from the trucking company and have to pack it back up and ship it somewhere. When I was at CCK they had an adventure hull that had a factory defect and they had taken care of getting a replacement shipped to them from Hobie.

It also seems more than a little crazy to have a boat manufactured in California shipped to Austin, Texas and then shipped back again to California.

Most of the rigging equipment I have purchased online but the sales tax on a Hobie Revo 13 is $160 and Austin Kayak charges $159 and to save $1.00 ordering from them does not seem wise, especially considering the much greater difficulty if there is a problem of any kind with the boat.

I also like to support local merchants and keep the money in California. I would have bought the two Revo's from Kayak Connection which is located 7 miles from my house, but he was so nasty and difficult that we drove up to Oakland to demo with CCK and then drive up a second time to pick up the boats (and they were pre-rigged by CCK at no charge.

Dude get over it already! Kayak Connection is full of good people and they support NCKA. So what if you had one bad experience, move on.
