I like buying local but the price from Austin Kayak might be cheaper, even with the shipping cost if they don't charge tax.  Not sure?
You can hassle them and will even throw a free shipping.

I bought my '13 outback last june for $1700 cash out the door with turbo paddles and sailng rudder  from the place in brentwood right on the delta.  It was a demo but it looked smelled, ect brand new.  seat was sill in the bag...I would hit that place up and bring cash.
FYI the ones thats posted doesnt seems to be a turbo fin, also make sure you tell them you dont want to eat the Tax.

CCK is also on my list, but is a bit further than the 3 I mentioned.  I love ACK, but would prefer to buy local to minimize risk of receiving a damaged kayak.  Do shops usually sell their demo's at a certain time of year or does it vary.  I'm starting to lean towards demo/slightly used, but set on getting a 2014 model so I have the remainder of the warranty and also get the transducer plate and pre-installed thru hull wiring fittings.

Demo sales are usually in the fall.  If you're patient they'll come around.  Ususally the dealers that sell demo model year Hobies that I know of are:

CCK
Adv Sports
Sunrise Mountain Sports
Tahoe City Kayaks

Also there's a possibility that Sunrise might have a bigger sale this year if they lose the DV kayak rentals as is currently planned.

Thanks!  Looks like CCK and Sunrise Mountain Sports are the ticket.  I'm headed to Del Valle Friday and may stop by Sunrise to check it out.

A big advantage buying with a local dealer are getting repairs done and dealing with warranty claims.
The sales process should create a good relationship.  I am very happy how CCK has handled these for me.

Austin Kayak charges $159 shipping for the Outback and Revo boats and $219 for the two Pro Angler boats. About the same as the California sales tax so to me it makes more sense to go to a local shop and have the boat ready to go. With any freight damage discovered after the truck has left would be difficult to work through with Austin Kayak. They are an excellent company and I bought a Trident kayak from them but for the Hobie boats we wanted to get them from a local shop.

CCK gives 10% discount on any other items purchased with a boat and we bought 2 Revo 13's there last week (after getting stiffed by David at Kayak Connection) and we go 10% off the second Revo as well as the two sail kits, turbo fins, and sail rudders.

I bought my hobie from CCK in oakland and they gave me discount on all the hobie accessories...10%...they even took the boat to my house for me...seeing as I live in Alameda it was no big deal for them, but for me that was great customer service.

CCK in Rancho handled my replacement hull from Hobie last year. Totally hassle free and they were in my corner the whole time. They took delivery of the new hull, set it all up, etc. They got nothing out of it, just great peoples!!!

They also supplied the kayak donation for the Fresh Kats Clear Lake event to support NCKA charities next week. Enough said.  :smt003 :smt003 :smt003 :smt003

It's like a popular car that sells at MSRP. But call around, let them know in a friendly manner that if they want you to buy from them, they need to sweeten the pot. Hold off on the revo outback, etc. new seats are coming out this year. Big upgrades with exception of the 12/14 PA just minor upgrades.

I just bought a PA and convinced the dealer to take 400 off MSRP.

When I bought my Hobie, it was cheaper to pay shipping thru Austin Kayak rather than CA sales tax and, believe it or not, it was also (much) faster delivery, since nobody had it in stock locally. I ended up having a major warranty issue, and it was actually very easy to work with Austin Kayak. So, IMHO, warranty concerns shouldn't be a deciding factor.
Are you pondering what I’m pondering?

A few years ago I was at Wind Toys, and the guy there (not the owner) told me that there was a problem with a particular brand (not a hobie if I recall, but it was a brand Wind Toys carried at that time, maybe they still do).  THere was a recall or some sort of warranty work that needed to be done, but it had to go back to the orginal place you bought it from.  Wind Toys did not have to do the work ont he kayaks in question as they were not the dealer who sold them, it Austin that sold them.  Problem was the needed to be done did not cover shipping.  Sounds funky to me but it may have been true.

It is pretty much a wash. $159 for the shipping versus $160 in state sales tax. With a local dealer if there is any problem with the Hobe, and it happens where there is a defect from the mold, the dealer will handle the problem instead of you shipping the kayak back to Texas.

I bought a couple Revo 13's a month ago from CCK as they made it easy to demo them as well as the Outbacks and with the turbo fins. I bought the anchor trolly and sail kit and sailing rudder and turbo fins for the two boats as well and they did the installation at no charge. They are a much more professional outfit than Kayak Connection which is in the rental business according to its owner and considers sales a sideline and an interference.

I doubt any of the dealers are buying enough volume to get a lower price but they can save in freight if they buy a lot from Hobie at one time. If you work with them on the delivery date they should be able to pass along to you the freight costs they save.

The only Hobie boats I have seen discounted were year old models being sold by a kayak dealer for 10% off. I wanted the 2014 model Revo with the new mounting for a transducer so did not even consider this "deal".
