Are the prices for new Hobies relatively constant from shop to shop?  I'm looking to purchase new and the three closest dealers are Mel Cotton's, Sunrise Mountain Sports, and Kayak Connection.  I'd be willing to drive a little further if anyone knows of a place that is willing to cut deals.  Any feedback is appreciated!

About the only deals you get on any kayaks are close outs or freebies added in. Maybe someone knows about those shops more than I do.

You might get one of the shops to "eat the sales tax".  I did a few years ago.

Thanks for the info.  I'm guessing that the shops that offer NCKA discounts exclude Hobie kayaks?

At Mel Cottons on my last visit, offered me a 10% discount if I picked up a kayak with them. I was looking at all their kayaks for nearly an hour and the sales manager just out of the blue said he'll throw in the 10% on a Pro Angler if I was ready to go. I wasn't ready to buy that day but it was nice seeing they were ready to work with me.

no it shouldn't matter.a discount is a discount. If anything is excluded you shouldn't shop there
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

I believe sunrise still has a rewards program where you basically get a 10% kickback. You have to wait 30 days, but that's basically free gear without haggling.

I was at CCK last Friday, I asked of all their kayaks whats the hottest seller.  Its the Revo 13.  Your best bet is to deal with owner / store manager directly.  You'll get a small break and don't expect a lot.

I like buying local but the price from Austin Kayak might be cheaper, even with the shipping cost if they don't charge tax.  Not sure?

It's been a couple of years since I purchased mine, but I got a 10% off from a dealer in the 916 area code and had a local dealer match. It basically covers tax and this was with 2 purchases.

Thanks for all the responses.  Sounds like 10% is the most I can expect.  Time to shop around...Hopefully I can join the dark side by the end of July!

I know the feeling, waited a whole year. And when it came to buy I was very indecisive. Best bet if your in a hurry is buy from a forum member... Or just give up and head to a dealer for the end or the season deal or a test day.

It's been about 8 years of shopping off and on before I finally just put an order in for my first kayak. I've been stuck on Hobies a few times since then and was recently shopping for them. I believe Adventure sports out in Oakley may have a couple of demo revos in stock. They are asking for a couple hundred under retail. You might be able to have them let go of it for less.

Have you tried cck in oakland?  I don't know where you are but there's a 510 in your handle so i thought maybe you overlooked them?  They've always been nice to ncka folk.
