So if I smash down the barb as much as possible so that when I run my finger against where it used to be with pressure I don't even scratch myself.........Does that pass as barbless?

cottonball test.   I dremel mine down when I can't find barbless but I worry about if that is stressing the hooks too much.

Rubbing it against your finger is a good technique to ensure the hook is barbless. But fingers are rough and callous. So the best technique is to rub the hook against one's scrotum...much more sensitive, so you'll know for sure if it's truly barbless.

What type of dremel bit do you use?

You A-Hulls are animals!  Might want to rub some lacquer thinner on your sac first!

I've used a few different ones before, any grinder will work.  Again, always concerned about the stress on the hook from the heat of the dremel, but I've not had one break yet when using Owners.

But pinching barbs doesn't work really well on owners.  They are so hard that if you try to pinch them you end up breaking the barb instead and leaving a nice sharp nub there that would catch any cottonball or male genitalia that you plan to rub against it.

I dont want to ask the same questions over and remember a thread that gpt pretty heated and went on and on and on...my answers will be in that thread

short version...can I have circle hook barbless mooching pole on my kayak and catch salmon with it....while also having rock cod jigs and stuff in the yak or on another pole....

dont yell at me.....I was not reading that thread and have bad memory anyways...
thanks

also...barbless  salmon also has to be circle hook  right???

sorry to jack or get off topic/ask an old question...I kind need to know at this point and am not sure

It's my understanding the barbed tackle can be on board, just not actively being used.  The grey area would be a rigged pole.  I say, strip the rigged pole when fishing salmon AFTER rock cod.

I think it was Mooch that got a $500 fine because the DFG used the cotton swab test on his pinched Barb Hook. I grind all of mine.

If you have salmon on board then you better get it off of the kayak before fishing for Rockfish. Unless you fish for Rockfish with a barbless circle hook.

Basically, once a salmon is on board (kept), all rigs being fished must have a barbless circle hook that conforms to salmon regulations.  To be on the safe side, I would suggest that the "other" rods be cleaned off of any gear that would not be legal for salmon use; even if you aren't fishing those rods.  If you go back to fishing ANY other species besides salmon, after the salmon is on-board (kept), that rig must conform to all salmon regulations; regardless of the species.
