While I'm still getting used my kayak in freshwater I would love to go out and do a little saltwater fishing. Where could I go and get some fishing for cod in from land? What bait etc?

Thanks so much!

Here's some potentially-helpful info. Not necessarily location-specific but these techniques work up & down the coast.

I recommend that you take a safety course at MBK or another establishment before going out into the salt in your yak.  :smt006
PM me if you want further info on a class.

Squid is awesome rockfishing bait.

20# if from a yak so you can break off. Could try  south end of Pacifica for shore stuff.

The jetties at HMB have had a few rockies and ling. You could even go after some crab as well.

I have had really good luck off the rocks in protected pools with a big bobber and 1/0 hook. I really hate snags and losing gear, so this works for me. I try to adjust to the depth to keep just off the bottom, or use a slip bobber.

1 to 1.5 oz jighead with a 5-6" swimbait. If your fishing with bait use a mooching rig with 4/0-6/0 hooks.  Tie the leader to a swivel with the hooks hanging close to the swivel and the rest of the leader hanging 2-3 feet below with a 2-3oz eight on the bottom.  I use a whole squid or a large herring and you will have a good chance at a nice lingcod.

Go big or go home!

If you cover the hook with a tobacco pouch it's snag proof and you can fill it with ab guts, no need to have a hook protrude, it will get slammed. Pull it right thru the kelp all day long and never loose another hook!

What do you mean when you say tobacco pouch?

Little canvas sacks. Probably 3" X 2". Beige with a yellow draw string. We also filled them with sand and used as sinkers.
