Since I can't use my harpoon, I have a backup tool in case anybody catches a barn door pac butt. Give me a call on 69 and "Say hello to my little friend"

Scott, I figure that the black thingy in the hook is enough for you to grab onto and hook the hali while its still submerged.  Right?  How long is your hook?  Hope you get your monster hali!

I just finished rigging a whole lotta iron barbless. Took a few hours but I am good to go. See you guys and gals OTW. Don't dwell too much on the WX. You never know until you get to the beach and if there is a whole bunch a guys standing there looking at the surf and someone says "well if we timed it right we may be able to"... :smt044 :smt044 :smt044. Go back to bed.

Scott,

Somehow I missed this originally.  I was wondering what the rubber bands are for.

Michael, it keeps the leaders organized.

I wondered about that and tried to inspect the photo but the rubber bands looked loose and I figured they had some fishing application.

15" long 6" hook gap. Yeah I added some handle bar tape for better grip. It's the biggest shark hook I could find (20/0 ?). Drive it through the belly and it should get the job done. I'll probably convert it to a flying gaff design at some point. Too much to do this year. Scott

Salmon report:

My buddy in the Cove caught 4 salmon yesterday on his boat.  All salmon ere 23lbs or bigger with the biggest at 39.5" and 28lbs.  Three of the fish were caught on a mooching rod with 15lb test.   They were caught 60ft on the wire with a watermelon Apex or a Carmen Electra Apex south of the whistle in 100ft of water.

Kiet, Tony and I are going to get some gaper clams now.  Anyone with any good recipes or suggestions chime in.  We will be bringing them to the Cove to share with whoever want some.

See yall soon... :smt001

Scoring, potluck, awards and auction schedule:

- Scoring runs from noon to 3PM somewhere near the ramp (will depend on tide and space available on beach - it'll be obvious).  Don't show up late to scoring - you won't be able to record a score;

- Potluck starts at 530 at the campground;

- Silent auction starts around 5 to 530 at the campground and runs until the end of the awards ceremony - see Great Bass 2's auction thread for more detail;

- Awards ceremony starts around 7 and will be complete by dark!

- I am excited about having this planned out, and I have a full itinerary.  THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR WANTING TO ADD SOMETHING SPECIAL OF YOUR OWN TO THE PROCESS, BUT I AM NOT ACCEPTING ANY MORE PRIZES TO HAND OUT OR NEW CATEGORIES TO RECOGNIZE!

I don't want to seem ungrateful, but this happens every year.  If you wanted to add to the itinerary you should've asked about it months ago.  It's extremely difficult to plan all this out, work really hard and fast to pull it off, and then have people totally not understand when I rebuff their offer of another prize to hand out or other additional steps to what is already scheduled.

Everything's coming together, the wind forecast has improved(!), big salmon are being caught, and we are inching closer to what should be a wonderful meeting and celebration of our collective energies.  Bring your best to GS and you will receive that from the rest.   :smt001

Eric, you put a lot into this event to make it epic.  I totally appreciate the amount of task and effort you put into it.  I'm sure it's a year long commitment to pull off, and deserve a huge "Thank you" for making it happen.

I imagine you are on a crazy high right now knowing you rallied up so many people from varying states to come to the Cove and spend a ridiculously awesome time killing fish and hanging out with ya.

You're a good man!   :occasion14:
