I can throw up just fine in either a south, west, north or mixed swell.  So don't worry about me guys.

As long as it's not windy you can throw up up current from me. That way I can benefit from the chum slick  :smt003

Looks like the primary swell switches to South starting Thursday thru Sunday at least.

Excuse my ignorance John but what is the significance of a south swell?  I've heard it mentioned before but don't know why it's important.

Shelter cove is not sheltered from a south swell, making the launch a bit sporting.

Raydon is having a raffle for the ladies again.  The prize is a gift certificate to a great shop in Mendocino.  Raydon will be making the rounds at the potluck to sign up as many ladies as he can - he's not just hitting on you, ladies!!   :smt003

Thanks, Raydon, for the generosity and enthusiasm.  You rock, Buddy.   :smt001

This is an old saying, mostly concerning Rockfish: "Swell (or wind) from the south, fish shut their mouth"

Either way SC is awesome and the fishing is better, no matter what the conditions, compared to the bay area coastline.  Sure wish I could go up a day early!

Yes - must be flat and can be dangerous.

Eric,

We're staying on Cantle Court, which is near Dolphin Drive, and was thinking about launching on Friday at the beach that Dolphin Drive ends at.  What can you tell us about it?

I've ab dove down there - it's a steep trail with bad footing.  I think by the time you got launched someone from the launch could paddle there.

But I'm all for seeing someone take on a challenge!   :smt001

The regional NOAA forecast looks good for Wednesday

Wed N winds 5 to 10 kt. Waves W 5 ft at 13 seconds.

Mixed and south swell can put off the rockfish bite but not salmon.  :smt003
Dry suit with fleece, rain gear and scopace and you should be good to go.  :smt005

I just finished rigging a whole lotta iron barbless. Took a few hours but I am good to go. See you guys and gals OTW. Don't dwell too much on the WX. You never know until you get to the beach and if there is a whole bunch a guys standing there looking at the surf and someone says "well if we timed it right we may be able to"... :smt044 :smt044 :smt044. Go back to bed.

All joking aside, there was a small (2') south swell a couple of years ago and there were several yard sales coming in, so spend a few minutes and rig for a wet landing before coming in.
