If there are any still available, I'll take one.

I did, Michael.  Get me early - Thursday is best.  Thx    :smt001

Sadly, I won't be departing San Jose until about 10pm Thursday night so I'll be arriving VERY EARLY Friday morning then hitting the water.  If you've got some Friday afternoon, great.  If not, no problem.

Michael I will be there wed afternoon.  Let me know if I can help

Just finished loading up all the schwag - that was a lot of work!  Everything's looking good, and there are a few surprises...   :smt004

Stormsurf is just starting to show what opening day will look like, and it looks good so far.  Over the next few days we'll get forecasts for tourney day.  If you follow such things, please study closely and carefully consider the ramifications of what may play out for us.  We need to be READY.  No cluelessness about conditions, trends, and contingency plans for different scenarios. I will add more on this later.

Prepare yourself!

Good night.   :smt001

Just spoke to Julie at the Oceanfront Inn (986-7002) - she has two double queen rooms available for the GS weekend.  They're around $190/night I think, but you can get three nights for the price of two. that's only around $120/night for a premium room right at the beach and close to all the GS action!  Jump on it if you need a nice place to stay for the event.   :smt001

How strict are we being about the catch and release photos? Will they be dq'd if the mouth isnt closed completely? Can there be lip grips or hooks in their mouths?

Great question, Evan.  I'm not big on the mouth having to be closed, and grips/hooks/fingers in mouth don't bother me either.  As long as it doesn't look like someone's trying to get more than they deserve out of a fish it'll be fine.  If it looks like the mouth is extended we can round down.

The required element will be announced Friday at the safety meeting, and that part will be strict.

Not sure if you mean get one while diving or get one at GS - either way, they're cool items that still intrigue me even after spending a couple decades with them.   :smt001

There will be five opportunities to win one at GS:

AOTD - highest score across the six species;
SOTD - highest catch and release only score (can retain salmon and halibut - can also retain RCG and lingcod, but they can't be larger than your release scores) - the category will only count the C&R scores;
Big Ling - longest lingcod;
Big King - longest salmon;
COTE - goes to the most unique and exciting catch at the event (through Saturday evening including prefishing).  Past examples being Pacific halibut caught by Domenic at GS3 in pre-fishing, which would have had to compete with both an octopus and a wolf eel by Jedmo that year; Andy's octo last year; Terry's massive pac hali...etc.

Remember also that if you don't want one of my old yard shells you are free to chuck it back in the ocean!   :smt003

My wife only lets me keep 15 in the house any more, and they have to be in my closet!   :smt005
