We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.

I want to stay as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can't see from the center.

wow...knarly....we got it pushed down our throats as kids and even now it is everywhere...more subtle but kids/teens still see it at a young age and it is their generation that tobacco companies need to stay healthy ..profits wise

In an hour it will mark my 3rd day of being a non-smoker.... Have wanted to it seems every day for years now.   It's hard to describe why it's hard to quit though.  Dont like em', dont want them, but have that neeeeeeeed for them.  Ugh....  Just trying to stay busy, but even then some things are hard to concentrate on.  About 5,000 times a day in my head I have to say NO.  Feel like punching holes in walls and crap like that. This thread and a couple others I found are great inspiration.  I know my NCKA brothers stand behind me as well.

Keep up the good work guys. I smoked for 6 yrs. What motivated me to quit was how much energy I was losing compared to each year I smoked. We need to face the reality that not only is it bad for us but are family as well. I also thought about the cost factor.  :smt001 cause I am very frugal. :smt001. Good luck to you all and if not for yourself then do it for your family and for N.C.K.A.  :smt006.  We are all here for support. Or maybe try this. Give me 5 dollars every time you think about buying a pack of cigs. that should be enough to piss you off and quit. :smt003

I love this thread  :smt001  :smt001  :smt001 :smt001  :smt001 :smt001
...and even more when guys like AlsHobieOutback take the chance to stand up say "hey I'm doing it NOW to guys!!"..I know  what that first day-week-month feel like and I love also to hear from the guys that have 1-2...6 years--15 years with out going back to ciggs... that points to the road ahead I'm on....I have not even thought about having a cigg in a few months, forgot I even am a non smoker till I saw this thread again...
really since I stopped taking the guy that smoked a pack (all day in his hand and fishing right next to me )out in my spare kayak...hate to say it but he did not honor my request to smoke a bit farther away from me as I loaded the gear and that was the last straw....good for you guys for quitting!!! and good for me too--pats his own back  :smt002

WTG, Man!  I can let people off the hook for having a vice like smoking - hope they can get control over their lives and will help them if I can.  But when smokers are rude - tossing lit (or any) butts out along the road or sidewalk or trail, stopping smoking about 1' before coming in a business and gassing the place out anyway with their just-took-my-last-drag breath, smoking around kids/families/people who don't smoke, and, this is the worst, not honoring requests to refrain or give space...  It's just lame.

Be kind to yourself and others - don't smoke!  And if you must, then please try to be conscientious of others' rights to breath clean air and not smell like crap for the rest of the day.
