Well the year is about to come to an end so how did we fare with the spearing of stripers ? Not suggesting that one gives up the exact spot or something like that, but I can say yes I did stick one in a central valley river this season, and I have heard there several others taken in the central valley rivers that I did not try as well. Was anyone successful with spearing of SB in the ocean this year ? Like down Monterey way or SLO way and of course or any of lakes ?

My guess, less than 30 SB were taken by spear state wide. Am I wrong ?

How many people do you think tried?

Allen, more spearfishermen went at it than what was taken, I am predicting.

I took a hail mary shot at one and missed when a school cruised by me while I was looking for halibut in Monterey County.

Sincerely,

Jim

Okay I'll bite there Allen and thank you. On my river of choice three of us did a float trip. & miles of river I kid you not, one legal SB was taken by spear. I do know of two others who use the same river made trip occurrences at least once. Each of them on that trip occurrence were successful. So five spearfishermen, one occurrence trip, 3 fish.

The AR, my guess 50 occurrences, number fish taken 20 at best my guess. Will we find out?

My bets are hook and line fisherman took a heck of a lot more than spearos...

Except for the guy with the brown hat in this pic. I heard he shot ALL the big breeders out of the AR!!

I was actually laying on surface breathing up with my eyes closed...I opened them and just out of range of vision I saw something weird...then I recognized it as a school of big stripers swimming past...by the time I swung my gun up they were all past me and I just was able to squeeze a shot off on the last one on the school...missed over his shoulder.  :smt012

We spent the rest of the dive trying to find the school again but no luck.

Was still super exciting though!

Sincerely,

Jim

Cool again Jim. Anybody you know of were successful with SB down your way ? How about SLO ? Maybe SB ?

Not that I heard. But that doesn't mean it didn't happen...

I'm surprised the numbers are so small.

So ... how does one go about petitioning for rule changes like this?  I'm encouraged that we should be able to open up ocean fishing year round (same as shore fishermen) for human powered watercraft.
