Ok so I have a really dumb question.... How can one become a member? Is there anything more than just joining the forum and showing up at the events?  Do I have to take a hit from the stun gun or something?? ;-)

I guess one of the aspect of being a member is adding a positive experience to the kayak fishing scene.  Be it sharing personal knowledge of how to catch fish, how to cook, or how to support certain causes just to name a few. :smt003

Forget all that. You need to be hit by the taser!  :smt044

A good member should do 1 or more following activities: (not necessary in this order)  :smt003

- Post fishing reports (pictures of the fish and/or scenery are always appreciated).
- Post or join hookups to meet old and new members.
- Attend NCKA events like fishing tournaments or AOTY award, etc...
- Support this website and community if you can.
- Bring good dishes to the potlucks  :smt003

You just gotta be a positively contributing member of the community! ...share info, learn a few tricks, and be there to help out when someone needs it. And a taser to the nuts! Then you're definitely in!  :smt044

To get a lot of attention on the boards, the following is encouraged:

1 - Try to sell something before your third post.
2 - Ask Which Wheels are best for sand
3 - Ask someone for their GPS coordinates.
4 - Buy a Hobie.
1st Place in a private tournament I did not invite anyone else to be in. (and I barely squeaked out a victory)

There are 3,209 registered members but over 50% have posted less than 10 times. The number of active members, those who regularly post is probably less than 300. Active members post regularly, attend events, elevate the sport kayak fishing and help others in need. Beyond the active members is what I call the core members. These are the people who invest their own time to support and moderate the website and organize events. The active members and the core are what make NCKA special but there are no specific requirements of membership except not to do something that would get you banished. This has rarely happened but the thread should be read by all new members. http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=16447.0

Within NCKA, there are groups of members which may have membership or initiation requirements. These groups have names like "A Hulls" or "Loose Screws". These groups began as informal fishing groups but became formal because of the team format requirement of the Gimmie Shelter tournament. Joining one of these groups is probably by invitation. For newbies, starting your own group is the way to go. Then you can make up your own requirements if any. Post in hookups and eventually you will find a group to fish with and don't be surprised if they become your good friends.
