Re-bait and leave a beer?

Yes, that is the correct procedure!

And to be clear, if there is already a beer in the pot, leave the better one and drink the other one!

The local HMB forecast is:

Saturday: Variable winds 5 kt or less. Mostly sunny. Mixed swell...W 4 ft and SSW 1 ft. Wind waves around 1 ft.
Saturday Night: WNW wind around 10 kt. Mostly cloudy. Mixed swell...W 4 ft and SSW 1 ft. Wind waves around 1 ft.

We'll be fine there, although should check the latest forecast on Friday evening.

Mendoland forecast is showing it jacking up to 11.5' on Saturday. I might just stay on shore...or travel!

I thought the following words of advice from the Hurley Fishing Newsletter were relevant to this topic:

Bodega Bay by Mike Aughney (Party Boat Captain):
Everyone is looking forward to this coming weekend's Dungeness crab opener. While most party boats around the Bay Area are full opening day there are spots open Sunday and lots of space available weekdays.
Out of Bodega Bay sport anglers can count on long lines at the Westside and Doran ramps as well as full campgrounds and vacation homes around the bay. It's still days away but as of Tuesday 10-29 the long range forecast calls for breezy conditions on Saturday with NW winds 15 to 25 knots over a 5 to 7 foot swell. While some of the best sport crabbing is found from Carmet to the Russian river in 60 to 120 feet there are crabs to be found in the outer Bay if the weather is too rough to travel up the coast. Most party boats spread their gear around so they have access to strings in all types of weather. If conditions are unsafe, those in smaller craft can work the outer bay where the conditions are usually calmer. We have lost far too many sport anglers in recent years who pressed out in weather too big for their boatmanship or craft. There will be plenty of crabs to catch in the weeks ahead and b-qued chicken is still a great dinner around the campfire at Doran. There is just something about "opening day" that makes some forget about their friends and their own safety. Remember.... if you are at the helm YOU are responsible for the safely for those on board.

I think I'm going to move my vote on the pole from Sonoma Coast to Doran!

I'd trade a beer for a pot full of crab anyday :smt002

I am joining a friend for a concert Friday night so not sure I will be joining Eric et all at MOE at midnight however do plan on joining the crowd (I KNOW there are more planning on being there than the poll reflects) at Trinidad - more for the 'oh my gosh, look how many people are out here!' factor.  It's going to be crowded with kayaks, canoes, and PB. Well, ok, I do plan on dropping some crab rings too if I don't make it to MOE.  :smt003

I'm considering a change of plans to MOE.  Trinidad on Sunday for sure, but I have football this weekend Friday at Miranda and Saturday at Ferndale.  MOE seems like a no brainer.

HMB!

Just a reminder to double check your crab gauges. The blue danielson ones are off and could be 5.70 or something like that depending on the batch. I compared a couple of blue ones with the yellow gauge and had to dremel the blues.
