Thanks for sharing Sharky!  This is going to be fun!

Anyone coming down to HMB should bring Ling gear as they are on the chomp just outside. Those hoards of underLings from previous years have pitched up all grown up  to around 24 to26" with some slugs mixed in. There are lots of males, so no need to keep the hens (2 vents). 7" white Big Hammer, live or fresh dead big Jacksmelt or Sardines Both are biting sabikis in and around the harbor. Big bag dines from the bait shop are also producing.

To prevent theft, I would have at least 1 person on watch and keep your pots in a limited spread. You can take turns fishing. I drop in box formation so I can see all my buoys at the same time. The craburglers were really bad last year.

Most of the time the burglars are checking the pots and not outright stealing them.  We did a lot of overnight and multi-day soaks last year.  I'm guessing we got checked 25% of the time (we had a "tell" that let us know if the pots were checked).  And we only "lost" 1 pot the whole year and that pot may have walked as it was after some weather.

That being said, I'm not shy about leaving the pots unattended.  And if you know what my pots look like and feel like checking them, please make sure to re-bait them heavily.   And a beer in the pot is always welcomed.  :smt006

For sure pots get stolen and walk but I'm willing to bet a significant number of missing, moved or damaged pots that are left overnight are moved by commercial fishing vessels unintentionally. The whole area from the bend in the south outer jetty to the buoy marked Pp3 on the charts in water shallower than 40' is considered good anchorage. Also prime crab grounds kayaks and small boats. During crab season there can be upward of 50 boats that come in and anchor up and leave usually in the dark. The gear gets hung up on their stabilizers and from time to time on their prop. The ones that get hung up on the stabilizers usually fall off after some distance. Like I said its unintentional but happens quite often.

Agreed. It looks like a get out early day. The afternoon looks blustery.
