The permit thing...

Ya, we would most likely get away it and be just fine, but here are the facts as I with a coroner all last week and this subject came up...

when a body is cremated, there is a small metal tag that has a serial # on it... these are used incase ashes are found and they are able to identify the ashes. and in some cases, prosecute with fines...

This happens a lot in Yosemite with people spreading ashes at a beautiful place...  Rangers find these tags and then send them into the coroner and it does not take much to identify a person to send a fine too or whatever else they do, but it's not pleasant and what a PITA...

I don't know what it takes to get a permit or how much it cost and there will be a question on the form at the crematorium of where the ashes are to be kept, again this will be recorded with the coroner. The person I know is way cool so she could tell me more info and I'll get back to ya all...  pm me to whom ever it may concern, or if I find out more and just post up for general knowledge ...

I agree though, KayakFishing Rebellion and Just do it...   :rambo:

My wife and I scattered my father-in-law's ashes off of Santa Barbara a few years ago and decided to skip the difficult permit process.  We chartered a sail boat from a local guy and scattered the ashes per his wishes without any difficulties.  I understand the law but I'm not sure this is really an enforceable statute. This just may be the rare situation where being compliant with the law just isn't the right thing to do.  Just one man's opinion!  I hope when my time comes, my friends will be able to comply with my wishes and government and unnecessary regulations won't get in the way.  Sorry for the rant but sometimes practicality just makes a lot more sense than the rules.

Not trying to be a mother hen,,,  but

Some of you are traveling down from the Spikes Fall Classic Sunday morning, which is extremely honorable and understand the passion...

It would be great if those coming down check in with each other before the drive...

A long day and late evening with extracurricular activities...   :beer3 :smoke :party

is a recipe for another Tragedy...

This happen twice after a couple of Sac City Fire Funerals where post funeral, and Police and Fire throw the best ones...  we had a couple of driving deaths...

Please don't let that happen here...

If your feeling a bit "taxed..." Sunday morning,  carry on where you are, relax and join us in Spirit...

Everyone will understand and be grateful that you made the right decision for yourself, your family and friends and especially,  Mooch...

I know I wouldn't want to reach the pearly gates only to have Mooch standing there ready to kick my ass....  :smt075

Follow up to the Permit thing...

I did talk to my friend...

She said that it is more for records for future relatives to know what happened to their relatives and where they are.  The permit process is quite easy, small bit of paperwork, fee of around $12 from the city or county to where ashes are to be spread.

The only issue would be if that county has restrictions to spreading ashes at sea. If this is the case, fill in another location and go to where you want to do it anyway.

Officials are not known to interfere with this process...

So it sounds like the best option for us is to stay the course and I'm sure any relatives of Mooch will know exactly where he is for decades to come...

Carry on...   :smt006
