Mooch Memorial

Love the idea!  I'd like to obtain a shell from anyone with one available.

Small holes drilled in the shells - linked together with mono or twine - to form a blanket and future homes for many a sea creature --??

  A kayak /  abalone sculpture.     Cement and shells combined , shaped like a kayak.     

Done by Sunday!?!?!? I think simple is better. I'd hate to see it retrieved and sold on Ebay... Jim I think, had the right Idea. Personal to each person and a picture for his family. A last message, thought, or remembrance. Stuff left unsaid... Simple... closure... Easy...

I think we can mark the spot on GPS then drop a permanent underwater memorial later. It would have be shaped in a way that crab pots and lures would not get stuck on it and heavy enough and tall enough to not be moved or covered. We could build it in pieces and have Sharkbait, fuzz and big jim install it underwater. I am thinking pyramid shaped?

What's the depth of the water there? Myself and Steve aka boogieboardersteve have scuba and I'll talk for him > and volunteer to help place whatever you guys come up with. Goproing as well. I have experience with doing similar things.

I am thinking the best thing would be to drop on the inside (east) side of the reef in 30-60FOW. That way it would not be exposed to the swell as much and out of the boat lanes.

I wish I could go down there and be with every one to say good bye to mooch! Ill be on the water some way up here to give a toast and memory.  I love the memorial idea and if I can plan accordingly I could also help with the scuba installation later this year.

If you need more scuba help in the future I volunteer my services too. I will bring my very first Ab shell I ever collected to drop Sun.

Here's a peek of the American Legion Hall and the patio we plan to use this Sunday for the memorial & potluck.  We officially have it from 12 noon - 8pm.  We'll likely be setting up the patio area Saturday night and Sunday morning.  The patio area has a big BBQ'er (just bring your own charcoal), a working stove & oven, a refrigerator, extra chairs, a few extra tables, and a fire pit for our use.

I wanna thank Frankfishing (an American Legion member) for hooking us up and putting down the deposit to reserve the place.  This venue is a certainly a step up from the typical parking or dirt lot that NCKA accustom to.

Great idea! Ive got a shell that Joel gave me last time he was over. Will do.

Narisa, Arianna and I will be there. If anybody has an extra shell, I would like one.
