So I've heard some people mention mepps flying c.  Are there any others you guys have tried using and can recommend?  I've been looking around and I've mostly seen the flying c and some smaller spinners that I'm not sure would last against a king salmon.

Thanks.

These are supposed to be awesome.  Gary Miralles (owner of Shasta Tackle) came to the shop last week for a trolling demo, and brought a few of these along.  Very new, I'm not sure if they are even in stores yet but they can be ordered online.  The 'shaft' is a titanium wire so it's totally flexible, reduces thrown hooks, and gives cleaner hooksets.

Up here in OR a lot of ppl fish with Cascade spinners which are bigger and take a beating from the chinooks. I havnt caught one yet but ill be fishing one of these tomorrow. Many ppl make em not sure where you can find them down there.

Sorry for this noob question, but are these spinners meant for trolling only or can you cast them as well?

there's a difference in use for these spinners.

flying C's are easier to cast, the scorpion and silvertron type spinners are super light weight and difficult to cast without adding weight to them.

you can cast a flying c a country mile, similar to the old mepps #5 and blue fox vibrax that i like.

i don't like trying to cast silvertrons, it just doesn't make sense, they are too light, so i use them for trolling.

Try blue fox in size 5.

This one is killer for me.

If you troll a spinner mAke sure u do some with a casting rod and a leader with a swivel to help with line twist.

Size 5 blade in Mepps or Bluefox is the standard spinner for casting around here in sac. flying c's are also a good bet too for casting..Now as for trolling, they make a different kind of spinner for that. There usually bigger and double bladed, like silvertrons. I personally prefer my  custom made Thumpies for trolling tho... :smt002

I have recently been reading this book (see below) and have a completely different view of spinner fishing than I used to have. I have been making a few casting spinners, like a vibrax body with a mepps-style French Blade, still waiting for my powder paint to improve the bare colors, and haven't spent enough time fishing them yet,  but I will attach a photo when I get home..
Let me explain something to you. Um, I am not "Mr. Lebowski". You're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. You know, that or, uh, His Dudeness, or uh, Duder, or El Duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing.

I just tried some double bladed Monti spinners that I saw in Wally World--strictly for trolling.  Got a 17# 12oz. Last Sunday on it. Couple bucks cheaper than Silvertrons.  Interestingly there were four empty racks labeled Flying "C" and they were all sold out!  Must be a lot of folks casting.  There is a guy who makes and sells spinners from his front lawn up by the AR.  He is a bit cheaper and they work well.  I don't know if I could find him again.  Just saw him out there and I stopped and bought a bunch of stuff from him.  Anyone know who this is and how to find him?

Benecia bait and tackle custom make their own lures labelled Ve-Ze lures. They look great although I have never used one I saw a lot of action off them at the state park last year.
