Nothing big, but my well spent youth finally caught up to me.  See mea culpa below of my history of being an idiot.

Four or five breaks, numerous sprains and strains on my right ankle over a few decades caught up to me in Bali last month, where i rolled it three times in a week.

Wife got me to go to the ankle doc on return ("idiot you have awesome health care!").
His words were, "The good news, you have ligaments.  The bad news, they're not attached to anything. I'll go in and fix that, plus clean up all those bone fragments and spurs floating around in there."

Sep 26th it starts, then Six weeks no weight, six weeks in a boot. Coupla months PT.

With a little luck i'll be able to yak by the '14 salmon opener!

my recollection of my history of idiocy is:
winter '86 - break and ligament tear: drunk night bouldering
summer '86 - sprain: jumping bergschrund with stupid heavy pack
summer '87- break/sprain: hit by car on motorcycle (car's fault)
winter '89 - break and ligament tear: snowboarding fall in chute, by myself, in a whiteout
spring '93 - break: mtbing crash
summer '95 - strain: mtbing crash
summer '00 - sprain/strain: bouldering fall, caught my ankle on the pad in the gym
fall '04 - probable stress fracture: running (training for a half)
summer '13 - sprain hiking down steps (trying to take a pic a same time)
summer '13 - sprain hiking  (trying to take a pic a same time)
summer '13 - sprain/strain (walking on a FLAT a@@ lawn, but stepped into a sprinkler hole- again with the camera in my face!)

Damn monta ellis!

you should moonlight at NASA during your rehab.

https://bedreststudy.jsc.nasa.gov/

Since you'll be laid up and atrophying for several weeks, maybe we can go for a rehab ride where I can actually stay on your wheel

I'd avoid the high-impact sport of photography from now on

   Well wishes on the surgery!
