great story, but Moby ain't happening.  Targeting a GWS or attempting to bring it to the boat would be illegal as well as extremely dangerous.

Holy cow, that was great reading, thanks.

It would seem the line would snap instantly if even brushing against those gws saw-teeth, but from the description it sure sounds like one!  Maybe snagged?  Either way, none of us will ever forget your story!

28.06. WHITE SHARK. White shark may not be taken, except under permit issued by the
Department pursuant to Section 1002 of the Fish and Game Code for scientific or educational
purposes.

Consider it "bycatch" but I 2nd the notiont that it isn't wise (& questionable legal) to purposely fish for one.

wider than your kayak - IMO: Land Lord. Did you report this incident with lifeguard / local authorities?

Blues and threshers are long and slender
.

Does anyone have the number to report the encounter?  I keep getting directed to Parks and Rec online

I'd be willing to bet that this is the same GWS FishingAddict encountered.

Shark Research Committee ......check it online......reporting it to the police, parks or whoever will get your kayak confiscated, while they search for the shark.  :smt011

Way to keep your composure out there........i am sure that if/when I see another one, I AM GOING INTO PANIC MODE for sure. :smt010

I have contacted the Shark Committee, they are going to call me shortly.  I have left an email with Parks and with County Sheriff asking where I should report this.

My Yak was not attacked, only my bait.  They are going to have a hard time trying to confiscate my yak.  I plan on being on the water Friday...  SWS most likely.   My wife told me that she doesn't want me to go out by myself anymore.... ha... sounds good.  Better chance of the cops confiscating my yak than me never going out by myself again.  Cannot stop fishing in Santa Cruz until i get my damn hali

You should try Bean Hollow.  REally good flatty fishing up there this time of year. heehee
(I'll go if you go)

Also, contact Sean Van Sommeran.  He's one of us, and a shark researcher right here in SC!

http://www.pelagic.org      email:   [email protected]

the guy from Santa Barbara strikes me as more of an alarmist, though his tracking data is valuable I suppose.  Sean is a Science Guy, but a bucaneer at heart.  And a fisherman in his soul.

Thanks Bushy.  I will contact him next.  The Shark Research Committee guy, Ralph, just called me and ask some additional questions.  He is going to post my story next to the others.  Now there is what.... 3 NCKA'rs on that website lol.

I will post the link when he is done.

Also, I'm down to hit up Bean Hallow with you, Bushy!  I tend to go during the week before work, if you are up for that.  Bean Hallow is not too far from Boulder Creek.

We are actually hitting Bean Hollow on Saturday FYI if you want to tag along. Caught a 40-41" halibut there last year. Meetup sometime around 7-8am
