I've had a blue about 8ft up to my Zodiac once. Doesn't sound like a blue at all. The one I saw was slender and  light blue/ medium blue on top.

I caught TONS of blues (ok maybe a dozen) when commercial albacore fishin'. Exactly NONE were fat, even fewer jumped out of the water. And they are BRIGHT (like electric) blue.

Awesome read Bear. I'm glad all went well and still managed to fish even after the shark thing.

Very cool experience for sure. That is why I check Pacific Coast Shark news before I go out. Plus I own a shark shield. Come down for the Slam down you might hook a grey whale or hump back. They have been hanging around lots of bait.

Dam Bro! Why didn't you reel it in and get a positive ID :smt003. Glad you're OK! I know the feeling of being alone in the ocean and seeing things that could swallow you whole. Its a scary feeling!

I'll call you later :smt001

I don't want to see another one ever again.  Jumping next to me is fine biting my yak is no fun.

Had a dream about the GWS last night.  It was my Moby.

I cannot stop thinking of the beast emerging from the water right in front of me.  I wanted to take it down so bad, but what the hell am i going to do with a fish bigger than my kayak that could have swallowed me whole?

Is it odd that all i want to do now is catch shark... specifically a GWS?

You SURVIVED!  Congrats!
Having it on the end of your line must have felt very inpowering, and then not-so-impowering. The fact that you said it was thicker than your kayak makes me think GWS.
That image will be burned into your memory forever.....and you fished after all that?

great story, but Moby ain't happening.  Targeting a GWS or attempting to bring it to the boat would be illegal as well as extremely dangerous.

wider than your kayak - IMO: Land Lord. Did you report this incident with lifeguard / local authorities?
