Just got off the phone with HMB Kayak and the Harbor Master to have to use the beach area for the event and Saturday night camping.

There are a couple of issues that still need to hammer down on for the event:

First one "was" the 'Commercial Event Permit / Insurance' that would have costed approximately $700; which is now required when having a "planned/organized" event. However, we were able to work it out so that the PIF event is a "Day event" and the overnight camping is a separate issue; and would require the camper to pay the regular over-night camping fee and they would allow us to camping on the beach front area, even though there is still room available in the upper parking lots. Last time they were very flexible and not enforcing the camping fee; but with other clubs questioning the last 2 'Beach Front' events we had, they are receiving alot more pressure. So please, if you are going to dry-camp overnight by the beach, please make sure you pay the over-night camping fee by the launch ramp or at the Harbor Master’s office. If you plan to come early and stay-overnight on Friday, you can dry camp in the upper lot.

Next, with a greater number of kayakers entering the water and the same time as power-boaters using the same water-ways during the rockfishing season, the Harbor Patrol has great concern regarding the risk of collisions between power-boaters and kayakers; which happened a few years ago at the opening of the harbor. So I technically had to file a “flight” plan for our course (see below). Please make sure that you are very familiar with the path we are taking, and stay as far to the right-side when exiting and entering the harbor (aka “the Jaws”); and exercise caution when crossing major boating lanes, which you will have to do after exiting the harbor {it’s noted in ‘red’).

With that out of the way, WHO’s Camping and WHAT da’ heck are you gonna cook for da Potluck?

Is the upper lot the one by the bathroom? I've only been there one time and really don't remember the layout. What is the camping fee?

What is the camping fee?

The "Yellow" arrow points to the upper parking lot where you are allowed to dry camp; the "Pink" arrow is where you should try and park, it's a short trek to the water from there.

The "Green" circle is were you can dry camp on Saturday night only; and where the PIF Potluck and raffle will be held. Please DO NOT PARK IN FRONT OF or BLOCK the HMB Kayak Rental area.

If you plan to just come for the day, you can unload your kayak and gear by the beach and then move/park you vehicle in the upper lots; except for the parking lot with the "Red" arrow, that is reserved for Permit parking only.

Camping depends on Berta. Maybe  Sat night only if she goes, or both if I'm solo.

I will bring some sort of desert most likely. I will leave the grilling to the pros.

Cost to park my RV in the upper lot? If I'm in my truck, can I just sleep in the back in the regular lot?

Wife and the kiddos and I should be there about 2,  no paddle for me.   I will bring an ice chest full of juice boxes and those little 8oz waters.

We wanted to make the chili verde with corn tortillas, picked onions, pickled carrots, and feta cheese.  I don't think there is anyway we can pull that off.  We went to the zoo in Santa Barbara yesterday and chased kids for 5 hours.  I'm sure it will be the same thing at the beach.  Fort those of you without kids,  2.5yos like to run off,  they start running and don't stop.

If anybody wants me to bring any supplies, just let me know.  I will be too busy chasing kids to do anything but happy to bring other stuff.

Laura will be bringing her camera to her first NCKA event.  She is a decent photographer.  Find the redhead with the camera for a family picture.

She took these pictures recently.
