Good laugh. You spearos are sneaky bastards!

I guess you just can't trust a guy who wears a mask!!

I do commend you Matt for not posting the picture or even forwarding it to someone you didn't know.

+1.

Thanks also Matt for letting us have a little fun with the pic and the situation. No ill will or malice intended towards you or hook and line guys at all.  Was just too good of an opportunity to pass up.  :smt002

Harold told me to google confirmation bias yesterday and I actually really enjoyed reading about the concept:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confirmation_bias

I think it happens all the time in all kinds of areas...science, public policy etc...and IMO it is a good reminder for us all to be aware of how easy it can be to see a picture or a piece of "data" and use it to support our opinions/beliefs.

This whole AR/striper spearing thing is a mess and hopefully we can stick together and work through it together, instead of turning it into a hook and line vs. spearos or c and r vs consumptives thing.

Jim

ps...oh and for those tapatalk guys that couldn't see the the title of the pic that fuzz posted:

I don't think there is middle ground on this one bj.

Each pic of dead striper on the American river (or troll post from fuzz) is gonna incite a bra burning internet riot  over spear fisherman killing all the breeders....and.....Divers will continue their claims of being the most responsible and ethical consumptive users in the history of all mankind while contradictorily arguing that the shooting fish in a barrel style removal of larger broodstock is cool.

As a ex diver and ex striper fisherman ( :) ) I have tremendous concern for how this one little hotly contested stretch of water is handled, even though I don't fish it.

For those who are truly concerned you can call or email the sac county department of parks and rec and thank them for upholding the safety code and asking them to continue doing so in the future.  The dive community will be challenging this one hard, I suggest you speak up.

What's the watermans alliance position on this?  Will they be challenging the county determination?

That's a lot of exs Art! Do they all live in Texas??  :smt002

I have read on other forums where guys are wondering if pole spears count as spear guns, if you lower the gun/polespear off a bridge down to the river if that would be OK etc, etc...

For me personally, and this is just me....I think it's pretty obvious that the AR is an area where spearos are not welcome. By the local hook and line fishing community, and by Sac County Parks...so why go there?

If I get a burning desire to go shoot a striper in fresh water I will go somewhere else, but not the AR where it seems I run the risk of getting in some legal trouble and pissing off all kinds of people.

But that's just me, and I live close to the ocean and a lot of guys don't.

Sincerely,

Jim

Hold on, back the bus up.  Anyone have proof these guys took the fish on the East Coast?  That one guy on the left is a well known manipulator of photos as well as being famous for using dual identities on internet spearfishing forums.  He pulled off the single greatest prank on spearboard history with his "I shoot shark" thread.  If I went and shot some breeders like the ones they're shoving into the camera lens, I'd say I shot them on the East Coast too.  Just sayin'...

You're 100% right Nate.

Harold, we demand PROOF!   :smt003

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I saw that guy on the left down on the AR yesterday shooting gray squirrels out of the oaks with his speargun!   :smt011
