I wonder what they did with them.  What could two people do with that much fish?

:smt013...I agree that u can't hate on another outdoorsmen for just trying to put food on the table, but I'm almost most certain by the look of those two spearos they went trying to put food on the table..those guys were trophy hunting and just wanted some bragging rights...every local knows that big boys arnt shy and know they hold up in deeper holes during the day...These bigger fish arnt easy to catch for a multiple reasons but that's the challenge..IMO, I wouldn't fill so proud shooting a huge striper like the ones above knowing how easy it was gonna be! Where's the challenge and pride in that! Just sad if u ask me.

Disclaimer,
Those fish are East Coast fish.

Not our beloved AR stripes. I didn't post the picture because I couldn't tell who sent it to me in a group text. I forwarded it to Fuzz, he posted it without telling me it was him. On the east coast.

Good laugh. You spearos are sneaky bastards!

I'm out. Goin to go walk down and try for a shad or two.

Matt

As Matt mentions, those fish are not from the American River... or even from California.
They were shot 13-14miles off the coast of Rhode Island, near Block Island.   :smt003

I just played along, because it was an interesting demonstration of confirmation bias.
People with strong stances will naturally seek and adopt any supporting anecdotal evidence.
Sometimes this means taking things out of context, false attribution, and/or hasty generalization.

That & it was kind of funny to have Matt send me my own picture.    :smt044

My favorite quote from that whole looong thread:

And if you think diving is not sporting, then I really have no idea what you're definition of sporting is.
I can think of nothing more sporting than stalking your quarry in a completely foreign environment.
Persistent threats of sharks, drowning, entanglement, unpredictable swells, rape by seals, etc.
Challenges of freezing temperatures, piss poor visibility, and inhospitable terrain.
Holding your breath while every single survival instinct is telling you to BREATHE DAMMIT!!!
THEN learning to operate in a medium where you have 1% the mobility and/or speed of your target.
Believe me… there are many days where I wish I was sitting topside... all warm and dry… tricking a fish to bite.
