I really enjoy taking pictures of the fish I catch and the places I paddle. I've been using my trusty Sony digital camera that isn't wp. I've been careful, use a zip-lock and wipe it off when wet, but I know I've been pushing my luck.

Well, I rounded up some spare change I had laying around and headed down to the local Coin-Star machine. There's no 8.9 cent per dollar charge if you select an Amazon gift card. I dumped my change in the machine and walked out with a $305.13 Amazon cert. Went home, ordered the camera and it arrived today.

Now I can take pictures and not worry about fish slime and water spashing.

Maybe I'll starting posting a few more pics of my hand holding a fish.

I too, just purchased a Pentax Optio... but I got the W10 instead of thw Wpi.  Only minor differences between the two it seems.

The W10 has  a 2.5" LCD versus a 2" LCD and the W10 has a higher resolution movie mode than the Wpi.   I played with it last night and I think I'm in love.  What a nice little camera.  No more disposables for this cat.

Al~
Funny that you got one. Becky's just showed up Friday. Ordered it online from Walmart of all places. Got a 1 gig SD card too, all for $315 delivered.
Bet you will be seeing a lot more pics of me now that she has a camera. Not sure if that is a good thing or not.

FYI... I purchased from an Ebay vendor (DreamTech Electronics) and found the Camera + bag + card reader + spare battery for $280 including shipping.

I ordered a 2 Gig 80X card for $65.50 including shipping from another Ebay vendor as well.  Not bad.

Right on, Erik!..... higher resolution movie mode is the one thing I wished for the Wpi.  Looks like W10 is a wiser choice!

Here's some good info on the W10:  http://www.dpreview.com/news/0602/06021503pentaxw10.asp

I think enough of you guys have these pentax optios that we need to let the company know that they are "the preferred camera of kayak anglers" (or something like that).  I'm sure it would be good for PR for their "waterproof and lifeproof" campaign.  Who knows, maybe they'd be interested in sponsering a prize at a tourney one day.

Personnally, I still have my old Canon S110 (2 mp) that I don't really care about.  I'm hoping to get an old waterproof case for it cheap on ebay soon.

About the movie mode, the picture quality is excellent, but the sound sort of sucks... but I didn't really buy it for the movies anyway.

When you operate the zoom lens in movie mode, you hear the whizzing of the zoom mechanism over everything else.  Nothing's perfect I guess, but if there is one weakness, that is it.  I suppose it's difficult to waterproof a microphone without muffling the sound.

Dude, you had 300 bucks worth of change just laying around the house?  Wow.

I have probably 40-50 bucks of change, and most of that is in my "Gamblor" bag (bag of change for my local poker night).

Congrats on being able to scratch up a camera for diddly!

I need a new camera.

I just found this camera for 265 bucks here:

cheap camera

I cannot believe how the price has come down on digi cams.

265 for a 6 megapixel waterproof camera?  Wow.

Too bad I don't have the scratch or I would buy it right now.

Here's the source that I found on ebay... member name of the seller is BabieBlackCat.

$240 plus $40 shipping for the Optio W10 + belt-loop case + spare battery + LCD screen protector + SD Card Reader.   Awesome deal!  All that's left is to buy an SD card separately.
